“Battlefield Rebooted “

Screen Shot 2015-12-16 at 12.54.58 PM

*In the above pic – J-ROCC, MF GRIMM, and myself….

For the last 8 years I have posted on the regular, but after some heavy technical difficulties I had to go on the hunt for another computer (you know how that goes)…Now I’m back in effect and Hip Hop Battlefield will continue to bring you nonstop BBoy explosives without all the fuckery, payola, dickriding, reckless posting, etc…..

WHOAH-

Where do I begin?

My trip to the CAYMAN ISLANDS was incredible…I was able to spend some much needed time with family, drink copious amounts of white liquor, partake in wild FESTIVAL activities, attend some jam packed dancehalls, eat an abundance of conch fritters, get engaged to my partner of 11 years, and all types of other shit that still has me mesmerized somewhat….

I was asked to be on CAYMAN 27 news to speak about international musicianship, my family on the island, and one of my favorite topics – VINYL…..

PEEP

*Major shout out to everyone that participated or assisted in our engagement party when I got back – J-ROCC, MF GRIMM, FDRZ, STATE, RIFF, KENDOO, SANTA, MAD MIGUEL, RASHAD, JUSTIN, ARON, ROBZ, JAKES, and everyone else (to many to mention) it is appreciated….

” Shabazz Scientific Jewelz “

Screen Shot 2015-12-16 at 12.36.40 PM

Those Chopped Herring dudes recently came equipped with another dose of unreleased wax action for us to rock to…..This SHABAZZ THE DISCIPLE demo release is straight up monstrous on many levels..First of all the timespan is from 1989-1991 so should already know your going to hear more aggressive frequencies (which is always welcomed on this side), plenty battle rhymes laced with 5% references, and socio-political bars….

It’s a damn shame that heat this heavy was locked away in the vaults for so long…….

TRACKLIST-

A1: Blow Em Up Bazz
A2: Story
A3: Comp 123 ft. Plush & Su-Preme
B1: Lyrics Go

” Caymanian Pride “

Picture 3

I’m currently in the CAYMAN ISLANDS (Georgetown to be exact) visiting my family, eating all types of conch fritters, sipping over proof rum concoctions, listening to heavy rude boy tunes, sweating my ass off, and absorbing all kinds of jewelry from my elders….

I will be back on the 20th, so expect HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD to return with it’s regular programming on the 21st….

Much respect-
D

” Tape Rocking “

Picture 2

NORMAL BIAS is a blog that is dedicated to preserving archived tape culture….Radio shows, demos, and out of print material is the modus operandi – so quit stalling, head over there and scoop up some treats, but make sure you tell him the grimey dude from HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD sent you jack !!!

” Hands Up To Heaven, Feet Firm In Hell “

Picture 5

Listening to this track brings me right back to the studio session we had while recording “Hands Up To Heaven, Feet Firm In Hell”..With a title like that, you should already know that it’s not a fucking game!!!!!! Once GRIMM got in the booth and started laying down his bars – it reinforced my belief that he is truly a giant with his pen game….”Gluten free get the bread and the butter / give a hand and help the people out the gutter”….

WHEW….

Or this one – “The babies are the future, shower them / disenfranchised people, I empower them”..

Their are so many quotable bars throughout the entire GMV series (and his entire catalogue for that matter), that GRIMM deserves a spot on any self-respecting Hip Hop heads top five list…PERIOD…

Here is the visuals for “Hands up To Heaven, Feet Firm In Hell” by my dude BOOGIE MENSCH….Once again he keeps the pressure thick by hitting you with a barrage of images that are sure to give you a dose of shock treatment….FEEL FREE TO SPREAD AROUND.

Salute-

” Cut Creator Speaks “

Picture 4

ROB SWIFT recently caught up with the original CUT CREATOR for a round of heavy Q&A…

“Rob Swift: What do you remember about those sessions in the studio? I ask because with technology being what it is, DJs don’t even record their scratches in studios anymore. Dudes like me can knock out an albums worth of cuts from the comfort of our own home in boxers, LOL!

Cut Creator: The day “I Need a Beat” was recorded I got a call from LL. He asked me to meet him at NYU because he wanted me on a record with him. I said bullshit but went anyway. I met up with him and we went to Rick Rubin’s dorm room. Chubby Jewish dude who wants to make a rap record? Whatever, I’ll play along. We eventually ended up at this building that looked abandoned. We made it upstairs and lo and behold there’s a full studio, the first I’d ever been in. 2 inch tape recorder, Large analogue board, drum machine and racks of equipment that took up a whole lot of space and money”.

” Third Sight Wreck “

Picture 1

When it comes to off-kilter, bugged out, and courageously original material – THIRD SIGHT (Jihad, D-Styles, DuFunk) are in a league of their own……

JIHAD comes with such incredible vocabulary that it is obvious he spent many nights hitting the books extra hard…It’s somewhat criminal that his name isn’t mentioned more often when west coast MC’s are being talked about….On the “Murder, Death, Kill” EP the trio take hardcore Hip Hop in a unique direction….

” Behind The Wall “

Picture 10

When you put music out to the world, you never truly have a clue who will get their hands on it…In my case, I try not to focus on that particular aspect so heavily-my main concern is that I put my best foot forward, pour my soul and energy into it, and remain true to my beliefs and Hip Hop ethics….

But I must admit it’s a nice surprise when something you helped create reaches people and places that you never imagined – for instance my music is reaching young cats that are on lock down….Hopefully my art will continue to inspire them and give them the strength to move forward….

For the background music he spit his versus to instrumentals from producers Ayatollah and Drasar Monumental. Both of the pieces were reflective. We’ve already completed dozens of recordings with Deasy including poetry, rhyme song writings, and freestyles. We’re at a point now where the goal is to develop a collection of recordings that speak to a specific theme, or moment in his life for a mixtape project. Deasy talked about being inspired by Kendrick Lamar’s record To Pimp a Butterfly and also taps into MF Grimm’s catalog including Scars & Memories, American Hunger, and his latest listens with the Good Morning Vietnam volumes. Deasy’s word play was much more specific this time around…organized and focused. He discussed some challenges he’s been dealing with lately and the urgency he felt to document something of substance for his children and family.
