” Disco Is Dead Mix “
I have seen this CUT CHEMIST “Disco Is Dead” mix floating around for quite awhile but I never took time out to sit down and give it decent burn…..What a critical mistake that was because this mix is straight up nasty on numerous levels….Matter of fact, I double dare you to listen to this in it’s entirety and attempt to front….
” Afrika Bambaataa Speaks “
Regardless of the questionable moves ICE T has made throughout the years, I still give him respect for his hardcore contributions, and connecting the west coast with east coast ZULU’s when he formed the RHYME SYNDICATE….
Luckily for us he recently linked up with the AMEN RA Afrika Bambaataa for a heavy round of Q&A….Please do not sleep on this one!!
” Kankick : Seeing Spirits “
With so much material dropping on a daily basis even quality releases fall through the cracks…You would think that with the aid of the internet it would be easier to find the fly shit – but with a over saturated marketplace you have to be vigilant when it comes to seeking out joints…
The Yo MTV Rap’s era is over duke, if you still believe in this shit you better roll up your sleeves and put some time in…..It’s still out there, but in 2016 I’m surprised when some people think it’s going to just fall in their lap…
HAHAHA…
On that note, take a listen this project by the slept on Cali beatsmith KANKICK for a midweek power boost…
” Name That Tune “
The BUILT TO LAST CREW from France bless us with an avalanche of sample source material on their latest comp “300 Samples – Rap Francais”…..
” Mr. Magic Salute “
WILL C probably has the biggest tape archives of Mr.Magic’s (RIP) radio show on WBLS that I have seen on the internet…If your on the hunt for some 1985-1989 Hip Hop morale you just found it trooper…..
” Unreleased Heat “
Major shout out to that dude NES over at DIRTY WATERS for posting this unreleased Pete Rock joint from 1995 “Greenbacks”…..Soul Brother #1 is on the mic device and the boards, so please do not snooze if your on the hunt for more rarities to add to your rotation….
FRESH IS THE WORD..
” Friday Breaks For Your Face “
One time DJ for King Sun, Mr. Looie Loo is the special guest on the latest episode of TIME MACHINE RADIO in Bushwick BK 1-13-16…..DEVINE starts things off, but in my opinion your better off skipping to Loo’s segment at the 65 minute mark because he pulls no punches when it comes to letting off heavy rounds of rare, under the radar, hard as nails break beats…..DO NOT SLEEP.
” Chyskillz Speaks “
Former producer for Onyx, “CHYSKILLZ” gets the interview treatment on a recent FOURTH AND LONG podcast…..After all these years this is the first interview I have spotted with the reclusive beatsmith – so consider this a Hip Hop treat…
Here are a few facts about CHYSKILLZ that you might not be aware of..
1….LARGO PRO was his mentor…
2….First production credit was the remix for THE FAMILY, “Runs In the Family”….You should pat yourself on the back if you remember the video for that shit…HAHAHA.
3….Russell Simmons signed him to a production deal after only hearing one song.
4….Plays multiple instruments…
*He also explains why he didn’t contribute beats to ONYX after the first album..
” Futura 2000 Steez “
Big shout out to TOAST for lacing me up with FUTURA 2000’s first book…God damn, at 60 years of age he is practically the living embodiment of true creativity, originality and heavy dedication…Plus I will always have an affinity for his work due to him being responsible for the cover art on the first record I ever purchased (GRANDMASTER DST & THE INFINITY RAPPERS)…
If you do not have this book in your collection, I highly suggest swooping it up….
” Skanks : Unsolved Mysteries “
It’s not to often these days that you hear an MC stick to the topic throughout the duration of an entire song….Too many cats rhyming for the sake of riddling and not really trying to signify ANYTHING…Sure I understand the “stream of consciousness” approach, but you have to admit that after you strip away the beat, and analyze bar for bar what some dudes are getting away with – the poetic value is severely lacking in this new era (somewhat)….
“Unsolved Mysteries” by SKANKS sticks to the script though….Every line connects to the next line, every bar has a specific purpose, and he actually keeps it thorough with the concept which I believe is a lost art within itself…
” New Shit On Deck “
” Catch beef in multiple reality reunions / leave your face vibrating like the bass was booming “….
I give “Dusty’s Theme” by the The Schizophrenics the two thumbs up treatment (even though they rock a played out drum break that I have heard a million times before – which is a personal pet peeve of mine)…..But the energy of this track is ideal for doubles, mixtape burn, etc….
Don’t get confused by the name, this is a outfit from Queens (STARVIN B & DUSTY G – not those other cats from Beantown)….
PEEP….
” DJ 10 Shun : Paroniria “
San Diego, California’s DJ 10 SHUN keeps it extra ugly on the first leak from his upcoming mixtape, “Paroniria”….Brace yourself for tons of distortion, dusted out drum breaks, sinister overtones, and of course heavy scratch work….Two thumbs up…
” Kool Sphere Unreleased “
Kool Sphere (Verbal Threat) is widely known for his hand styles in graff circles, but this Queens native also gets busy with the bars..His “Unreleased” project has some joints on it that will perk your ears up if your in tune with certain hardcore frequencies…..
HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD TOP PICKS * “Prima Donnas” & “All City”
” A1 Records In The Mix “
This is the second mix that I have posted this week to rock a joint by the first LO-LIFE on wax BOOSTIN KEV (RIP)..Matter of fact “I’m A Booster” was his very first release on PARKER RECORDS 1991…It’s a shame that you can barely find any info regarding this very ill BK rhymeslinger…
If your a LO-LIFE, or just a LO-HEAD in general “That Be Boostin” & “I’m A Booster” should always be in your rotation….
A1 Records out of NYC has a podcast that you should peep….This SESSION 1278 mix by SETH is a good place to start duke….
