” Milano Constantine : 2017 “

*Update – My top ranking cut is, “Waited So Long”….
Like I said a few weeks ago, 90% of the time I review something fully before letting it fly on HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD…I”m not thirsty to put up random shit just to boost the activity rate over here – I’m more concerned with quality not quantity…
With that being said though, when you see a brand new MILANO CONSTANTINE project (The Way We Were) you do the right thing and rock that shit with a quickness….I really wish he would of used SHOWBIZ or the P BROTHERS for his first official album, but I guess that wasn’t in the cards…Regardless I’m going to give this some decent burn and I will tell you what I think at a later time (Fingers crossed)….
” Butter Soul : Repost “

I don’t repost shit to often on HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD, but every once in awhile I have to revisit joints that deserve more burn….For instance, my cuzzo ARCHITECT is far from a slouch when it comes to transforming his sampler into a instrument….
If you missed this the first go-round, give it a thorough listen and get your mind right and exact….
” Group Home 2017 “

LIL DAP is back on the set with some 2017 boulevard slick talk with “American Pimp”…Give it a listen…
” Just – Ice : House List “

You know it’s going to be a good day when you get the opportunity to hear JUST-ICE speak his mind for almost two hours straight…..
On this episode of ‘The House List’, Peter Agoston travels to the top of The Bronx for a rare conversation with one of Hip-Hop’s unsung legends, JUST-ICE. Born in Brooklyn, reared in the Bronx, Just-Ice is New York City personified. We talk about the earliest inclinations of what would be the genre of Hip-Hop, Justice’s vast record collection, his seminal works with Kurtis Mantronik on the Fresh/Sleeping Bag imprint, getting lit with T-La Rock & Laurence Fishburne, playing ball with BDP’s Scott La Rock, and much more. This is an essential listening for any purveyor of Classic Hip-Hop. All recorded in Just-Ice’s home in the Bronx.
” Two L’s Up Steez “

I’m officially back after taking a two week hiatus due to the BOX CUTTER BROTHERS 4 release…Much thanks to everyone that went out and supported the wreck it is appreciated.
RACK LO recently dropped a heavy jewel with “Lo-Life: An American Classic”…Go out and cop the book if you know what’s best for you troop!!!
Lo Life: An American Classic takes the reader on a trip to New York City in the early 80s—a time when crime and violence ran the streets. The famed street gang, The Lo Lifes emerged from this tumultuous time. Formed by crews of teenagers from the Brownsville and Crown Heights neighborhoods of Brooklyn, they made a name for themselves by dressing head to toe in highly coveted Ralph Lauren clothing or “Lo.” Polo apparel—and other preppy 80s fashion brands like Guess, Nautica, and Benetton, among others—presented an aspirational lifestyle for these kids from rough neighborhoods just struggling to get by. Fighting for style and survival, the Lo Lifes targeted these brands, and would acquire them by any means necessary—including stick-ups, shoplifting, and hustling. A reign of terror ensued, when your new winter coat could make you the target for a robbery or worse.
What started as an informal gang uniform, organized around clean designs and bright colors, became a devotion to a lifestyle brand, and eventually created an association between the streets and luxury that would fundamentally change the foundation of the fashion industry.
Lo Life: An American Classic documents the personal collections of archival Polo apparel and never-before-seen vintage photographs amassed by the crew. And through countless interviews with original members, as well as individuals from the worlds of fashion, hip-hop, and art, presents the first comprehensive oral history of this notorious New York collective. It tells the remarkable story of how a small group of teenagers fighting to make a name for themselves eventually made themselves seen, heard, and emulated globally.
” Box Cutter Brothers 4 “

NEW WAX ALERT – Orders are now live for the new BOX CUTTER BROTHERS 4 vinyl (AYATOLLAH & MYSELF)…..Instead of strictly rocking instrumentals like the first 3 releases, we both decided to get in the booth & go for broke (Yeah, both of us rhyme, produce, and DJ)..BCB-4 is truly a highly explosive piece of artwork..No frills, no tinker bell beats, no copping pleas, no bozo bars – Just serious wreck by 2 serious brothers….

“More Large Pro Flames “

JEFF WEISS hits us with a nice write up on the significance of MAIN SOURCE’s debut album 25 years later….I don’t agree with all of his points, but it’s still worth your time regardless..
The bespectacled Large Professor leads the ceremony, backwards cap on, commanding the DJ to stop and re-start the tape. But this time…LOUDER. A dozen on-stage teenagers attempt to mean mug, but they can barely conceal their euphoria. For the first time, they’re about to perform what was immediately hailed as the best posse cut ever (unless you preferred “The Symphony.”)
Large Professor introduces his crew: Joe Fatal, Akinyele, and, of course, Nasty Nas, the Jesus-snuffing prodigy from Queensbridge, already revered as the second coming of Rakim, the God MC. Extra P roars for the DJ to “turn that shit up.” Sleigh bells shake over the boot stomping Bob James drums. Sinuous guitar lines lifted from Vicki Anderson create havoc. The crew simultaneously bang their heads, throw their hands in the air, and then Nas obliterates the binary between heaven and hell. It’s the platonic ideal of what people talk about when they talk about “real hip-hop.”
” Large Pro vs Diamond D “

95% of the time I preview what I rock on HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD….This is one of those 5% scenarios because I just stumbled onto this live 45 footage of LARGE PRO & DIAMOND D in the UK going for broke….
I guess it’s time to make some popcorn, relax in my recliner and catch a groove…If you have your head screwed on properly you will do the exact same thing…
VIA – PRITT KALSI-
A great way to kick off your 2017 with this footage from Diamond D and Large Professor’s late 2016 UK tour. Notably two of the greatest hip hop producers of all time they have embarked on journey reverting back to a time long before they started making music, a time where as children they were fully taken by this new and exciting culture called Hip Hop.
Where Djing was thing. This new art form required two turntables and mixer. A bunch of 45s and to these guys and many alike them they had to find 2 copies of each record. They came in at a time where people where still discovering holly grail breaks. Very Exciting times.
Not only did you have to scrimp save and find these records you had to perfect and master the skill of cutting them up on the turntables not an easy thing to do. Competition was high so it only forced you to practice hard, if you didn’t have the skill on the turntables you made up for it with your selection. This is how great DJs made their name and found recognition.
Both these men mastered all the elements above. This later lead them into them becoming some of the greatest Hip Hop producers, Don’t ask me ask Kanye West who although i’m not a fan of him, even he when it comes to his piers will humble himself to name the two men featured here.
I was privileged to join the men on some of their tour. Although I filmed much footage over 4.5 hour of them just cutting up I put this selection together not just to showcase them but as piece of document to preserve this element of the culture.

” UK Wreck : Electro Rock “

A wise man once said to me, “Yo Drasar why are you giving away free jewels on HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD to complete strangers”….My reply went something like this, “Hip Hop has given me so much in my lifetime it is my duty to spread the glory of this art form”…
What my man failed to realize that a jewel is somewhat meaningless if you are not creative enough to apply them….I look at HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD and my other creative endeavors as applied jewelry…With that being said here is a heavy gem for all you dudes out there that know what time of day it really is..I’m going to take you all the way back to London 1985 for some BBoy document shock treatment in the form of “Electro Rock”….
” Flix Of The Day “

If your on the hunt for more aerosol morale in your life look no further than these scorchers….
