" Greg Nice Interview "

” Dizzy Gillespie plays the sax / me, myself I love to max “…….

Wait, hold up a second…..Dizzy didn’t play the motherfuckin sax, he played the trumpet…..HAHAHAHAHAH…It’s o.k. Greg, we forgive you because “Funky For You” was a certified scorcher…

Greg Nice got his start beat boxing for T La Rock back in the early 80’s…..He went on to form Nice And Smooth and the rest is history as they say…..What people seem to forget is that Nice And Smooth were on Def Jam back then, and you couldn’t turn on MTV Raps without seeing one of their videos at the time…..

I’m talking major burn…..”Funky For You”,”Hip Hop Junkies”, “Rhyme Slow”, and “Dwyck” all recieved major airplay (I’m leaving out the song they did with New Kids On The Block because it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth)….Wow, MTV has sure changed for the worst…

Peep out this interview with Greg that was conducted by Jack Paine (Hip Hop Dx)…..He talks about his friendship with Tupac, Sleeping Bag Records, Hip Hop history, etc………Interesting read..

YOU BETTER CHECK IN…

" Let’s Hear It For The B-Girls "

Martha Cooper and Nika Kramer first began documenting the new breed of B-Girlz in a breaking competition in Germany in 2004. Following the dancers to the biggest battles—including Mighty4 in San Francisco, the Spinfactor Finals in Rhode Island, Breaklanta in Atlanta, IBE in the Netherlands, and the International Battle of the Year in Germany—they photographed and interviewed B-Girlz representing everywhere from South Africa to New Zealand, from New York to California, and from Japan to Germany. Culminating in the first annual We B*Girlz competition at veteran B-Boy Ken Swift’s studio in Brooklyn, Cooper and Kramer’s work will introduce a new generation to the art of B-Girling.

"Milkcrate Jewels 24: Mista Sinista Edition"

So my new sound proof studio is finally finished…..A brother is really happy right about now my man…All my equipment is set up, no sound leaks, and the freshly laid carpet has that nice 2010 smell to it……To be honest, I haven’t been this happy in quite sometime…

Only one fucking problem…

Transferring a dumb amount of records to the new spot…………SHIT, I love vinyl to death, but this is just ridiculous….How much abuse can my back take while moving all of these god damn crates ?

Anyway, while looking through the magic crates I went on a crazy trip down memory lane…..Funny how some quality records get lost in the shuffle (When you have as many records as I do it’s bound to happen)….

In the above pic I am holding up two records that feature “Mista Sinista” production…….The criminally slept-on “Cliffhangaz” (A.B. Universal, Kukuu Bag Of Bonez, etc) hit a home-run when it comes to sure shot singles with the hilarious skeezer anthem, “Curry Chicken Head”…

Don’t sleep…..Cliffhangaz definitely do their thing on the mic, but Sinista’s production is as equally dangerous….POW.POW..

And next up to bat is the hard to find “Insane Psycho Home” E.P…

Peep this cut entitled “Padded Walls” also produced by Mista Sinista..

2003 goodness..

I had the opportunity to chop it up with Sinista about ten years ago, and I was completely surprised at how humble he was…Dude even hopped in my car and listened to my beats (He gave me the nod of approval which made my day HAHAHA)……..

So here’s to you Sinista……

SALUTE…….

" Burn Your Face Off "

A couple years back I hit up my dude “Refa One” to bless me with a ill piece to hang up in the laboratory…..It took him a little while, but he eventually accomplished his mission…

When I first saw this joint, I almost lost all composure…

The “DRASAR” on the side of the train was fresh enough for me, but he went the extra mile and flipped a character on the side to complete the explosion…….BLAM,BLAMZ…

" War Report 2 Shit "

To be honest I was a little skeptical when I heard CNN were going the War Report 2 route….Sure Raekwon, and Sadat X, pulled off the “sequel attempt” with flying colors, but could this Queensbridge duo recapture the magic of their debut ?

YES INDEED…..

Some of the beat selections are questionable- but they definitely stepped up their wordplay…All in all, War Report 2 is a well rounded album that showcases newfound growth….

Here are a couple shining moments….

“The Oath”- Produced by Hazardous Sounds- featuring Raekwon, and Busta Rhymes…….My top pick of the album…

" Milkcrate Jewels 23 "

Yeah, it’s been a minute since I laced you guys up with “M.C.J.”,but this one right here is going to send you into a tailspin….
HAHAHAHAHA…

“Dirty Face Angels” released this single “It’s Not A Game” b/w “6 Emcees” back in 1999…..What really caught my attention was the dramatic production from the criminally slept-on , Louie “Phat Kat” Vega……

Piercing strings, haunted house piano loops, and booming drums……….What more do you need ?

“It’s Not A Game”

" Hip Hop Battlefield Goes To Soldier Field, Part 7 "

Well it looks like Mr. Funk What Ya Heard and myself, will be taking our brand of turntable abuse on the road again….In about a month we will be hitting Las Vegas and Chicago with dancefloor scorchers galore…

Big up to my manager/booking agent for doing his motherfucking job- hopefully our plan for a Vegas monthly pans out correctly.

It seems like I just got back from Chi-Town..

Anyways, I decided to see what those Chicago Hip Hop project dudes are up to (Cosm Roks, Monkey,Roper, Turnaround)…Just what I thought: 4 hours of nonstop joints, newness, slept on cuts, and a couple secret spices….YEAH…

" Italy Is In The House "

Can’t believe that it is Monday already….Damn, 2010 is moving along at a frantic pace to say the least…..

Here is some beat morale to jump start your work week…

Dusty Groove. Com wrote :

Tripped out psychedelia from the Italian cinema scene — great stuff from the late 60s through mid 70s — filled with percussion heavy mod rhythms, loads of leftfield oddball flourishes, and pulpy grooves galore! This set was compiled by Carlo Bagnolo and Claudio Fuiano who do a terrific job of assembling trippy, but never too wild stuff by some of the heavyweights of the era, along with some less familiar names — and the tunes are total gems! It’s a mostly wordless batch, with some surprisingly funky bass and percussion, loungey horns, strings and flute, and loads of trippier elements at the fringes! Titles include “She’s A Born Loser” by Phil Clinton & Peter Smith, “Bali” (new edit) and “Donna Piu'” by Giorgio Gaslini, “2968” by Carlo Savina, “Danza Primitiva” and “Cinque Bambole Rosa by Piero Umiliani, “Blue Rhythm Festival” (new edit) by Piero Piccioni, “Mood” by Augusto Martelli, “Fai Presto, Fai Presto” by Gianni Ferrio and more. 14 tracks in all — a number of which are on CD for the first time ever!
