Out of all the albums that Onyx put out, “All We Got Iz Us” is my personal favorite…….Fredro Star stepped up to the production plate and supplied the crew with some certified heaters……
“Walk In New York”, “Live Nigga’s”, “Last Day’s”, “Evil Streets”, and “Most Def” were all produced by Fredro………After the release of this album Onyx switched up their taste in beats and things started to move in the wrong direction…..
If these guys returned to the original recipe I still believe they could make some threatening music in 2011……It’s all about production direction at this point, because Sticky, Fredro, and Son Seez are always an interesting listen….
D.J. Books put out a Onyx mixtape last year (Mixtory & Violence)………Put on your best mad face and prepare for some rowdy frequencies……

In my opinion, “Dub” is the original trance music……Some people can only deal with it in small doses, but I could listen to this type of shit all day without a problem and get my heavy meditations in order at the same time (YA HEARD)…
Dub champions like Lee Perry, Scientist, Jah Shaka, Mad Professor, King Tubby, and plenty others made a huge impact on me growing up….So much of an impact that even today I am obsessed with a twisted sense of sound manipulation that can be traced directly to what they were doing in the 70’s….

Defenders Of The Faith (Checkmate & Concise) are a duo from Vancouver, British Columbia that deserve more recognition for their brand of heat….Back in 2000 they put out Bait & Switch b/w These Days & Times on their own “Double Up” record label….
These Days & Times was the winner for me……Production by Mr. Attic (Grassroots) with extra swift scratches by Lil Jaz (Remember him ?)…….Over the years they have put out many singles, mixtapes, and an album or two…..I’m surprised more cats in the States aren’t aware of them, because when I headed up to Vancouver a year ago, they were a household name……(Yeah the above pic is me in Vancity channeling the spirits-HAHA)
Anyway, I decided to give them the remix face-lift, and add my own grime to the mix………Things got so out of hand that the motherfuckin electricity went out (Seriously)…..
Once the powered was restored, I had to start from scratch and try to put the production puzzle back together………MISSION ACCOMPLISHED…….

“Frank Motley’s groups and King Herbert & The Knights were part of a funk and r&b scene that sprung up in Toronto throughout the 1960s and early ’70s. Producer Jack Boswell recorded the groups live with no overdubs on a four-track (and usually in one or two takes in order to save money) at Spectra Sound Studios, located in engineer Bill Bessey’s basement. The Knights consisted of King Herbert on tenor sax, Roland Simmonds on lead guitar, David Jones on organ, George Philips on bass, Jimmy Butler on drums and vocalist Jack Harden”.
