” Vocabulary Spill, Part 5 “

Picture 10

Even though we are living in a “PC” era (perpetrating clowns), every once in awhile I have to express how I see things…..

Sure anyone can be a critic, but unless you have the experience, studies, and knowledge under your belt to go along with it, the critiques end up sounding like empty rants….

For the majority of my life I have lived and breathed for this art form….Not only have I dedicated my life to it, I have actually taken the time to approach it as a serious student (anyone that halfway knows who I am will vouch for my claims)…..Am I trying to prove I am “more Hip Hop” than the next man, absolutely not, that would be ridiculous – I am merely attempting to convey how serious I am about this shit….

Walk with me as I state my position on a few acts of blatant fuckery…

Picture 9

1..”REVENGE OF THE HERBS”..

I’m thankful that the projects that MF GRIMM & I put together are sold out (GOOD MORNING VIETNAM & THE BE NOBLE / TIME 7INCH )…But I have to be honest, SOME of these Hip Hop record buyers for stores are straight up LOST…..

How SOME of these cats landed their jobs is beyond me…..What was their prerequisite to be in charge of ordering Hip Hop if they are not in tune with the pulse of it ?

If your a dedicated Hip Hop head – I highly recommend that you run down to your local record store and demand that they give you a job….PLEASE!!

Picture 8

2..”NEW AGE RECORD COLLECTORS”..

Since the early – mid 80’s I have been buying records (my dad was a DJ so he often brought me along when he was copping pieces), and it never crossed my mind to flaunt how much I paid for a record, brag about the rarity of it, or what country it came from – I was to busy scratching, blending, or chopping up that record to concentrate on all that other shit as a kid..

My point being ?

The point is obvious…..This is Hip Hop right ?

What the fuck are you going to do with that record ?…. Are you going to add on and flip that record for a purpose, or are you expecting a pat on the back because you found it in a moldy basement in Russia and only two copies were ever pressed up ? GTFOH..

When cats try to turn record buying into a self righteous, elitist, rich man’s game – Hip Hop loses……PERIOD.

Picture 7

3…”LACKING THE FUNDAMENTALS”…

A wise man once said, “If you can’t rock some decent blends, get from behind the motherfucking turntables”…..HAHA..

That shit always stuck with me, so whenever I see cats simply playing records instead of actually blending, scratching, trick mixing, rocking doubles, or at the very least power mixing, I have to “BLOW THE WHISTLE”..

Once you decide you are not going to take the time to mix in a set – you are actually opening the floodgates for all types of fuckery (like we have today)..

Picture 2

4..”SUGAR RAP”…

Motherfuckers try to act like shit is sweet, but if you really look around and turn your computer off for a second, you will notice that it’s not all good out here right about now….

Unemployment is up, unarmed teenagers are getting killed at the hands of wannabe cops (ZIMMERMAN DESERVES THE WORST IN LIFE), gas prices are sky high, over two million black men are in the prison system, etc.

Quit rhyming like life is one big fiesta, and bring some substance to the table….PLEASE…

Picture 5

5..”PAULA DEEN – QUIT COPPING PLEAS”..

We don’t love Paula Deen on this side, or believe her crocodile tears one bit…..HONESTLY…

Bigotry is still alive and it’s a motherfucking shame that some people are down playing this situation like it’s some sort of joke….If you think this shit is some type of joke I double dare you to check out the transcript of the testimony….

” Tat Money Speaks “

Picture 1

Just got back from Portland, Oregon for a 48 hour heavy digging experience….I was pleasantly surprised that “P-Town” had so many top notch record stores ( Big up to my man C-SLAYER for showing me around and opening up his private collection for the kid )..

Anyway, now that I’m back in Vietnam, California expect extreme heat on the blog this week….Another legendary Philly DJ gets the interview treatment : the good dude over at the OLD TO THE NEW BLOG recently rocked a interview with TAT MONEY……….Say word.

“Where were you hoping your passion for deejay-ing was going to lead to back then?

“I always knew that I could do something with it, but exactly what I didn’t know. I wanted to be in the game real bad and I felt like I was so close to it that I could almost reach out and touch it. So it was frustrating in a sense even though I always felt like I could make it happen. So to make it happen, I got my myself a job in a local record store because I’d read that Mantronik had used to work in a record store when he was trying to get into the game. So I got myself a job at the best record store in town, which was Funk-O-Mart downtown. I went down there two times and brought a ton of records. It must have been about a hundred and fifty dollars worth of records. It was a whole lot of records. I could barely even carry them home (laughs). The second time I went in there the owner saw me and was like, ‘You know a lot about records. Do you want a job?’ and I said ‘Yes!’ It happened just like that which was exactly what I wanted to happen. So I started working there every day.”

” Joint Of The Day “

Picture 5

This cut by Tashane (RIP), A-Bless, A.G., and Majestic Gage is my top ranking choice for today (even though it’s only 7:45 AM Vietnam, California time)….”Come And Get Me” is a straight up ugly rhyme fest with SHOWBIZ on production…

Unfortunately, TASHANE lost his life recently….

It’s a shame because if you pay attention to his bars, you could tell that he had a certain potential about him…Plus being down with one of the most legendary crews in Hip Hop put him in a good position to be heard…

RIP…

While talking on the phone with AKBAR yesterday he mentioned that there is a video for “Good Food”…..If you never heard this joint before, do the right thing and check in because this brother is still very sharp with his pen game…

Also, make sure you take heed to the words that he speaks about in this song, you might add a few years to your life homeboy…

Go cop his newest album “Planet X” on Peasant Podium Music….

” E-Blaze On Production “

Picture 10

DITC affiliate “E-Blaze” rocked a interview with the good people over at LOST TAPES that should hold your attention….

“Some people might still not know about E-Blaze, but that is rapidly changing. After immigrating to the US from his native France around 2004, he quickly became one of the illest, yet most underrated, underground producers lacing 12”:s for Screwball’s KL, and Blaq Poet, which was soon followed by dope beats for Smiley The Ghetto Child, Raze/Killah Priest, Big Noyd, and Infamous Mobb. His real breakthrough for many, however, came when he officially linked up with the legendary D.I.T.C. crew, being heavily involed in albums like Show & A’s “Live Hard”, “Oasis” by OC & AG, the “The Movement” compilation from D.I.T.C. Records, and so forth”.

” Kurious : Shorties Watching “

Picture 9

Kurious Jorge is back on the set with visuals for “Shorties Watching”….This sounds like some Summertime, drop top, body rock type of music…

Straight off the “Luv NY” project…Production by Ray West.

And while your at it I suggest that you give this in-depth interview with KURIOUS by Same Old Shawn a thorough listen trooper..

“This week, we talk to Jorge Alvarez, better known as Kurious. The New York-based emcee released his classic debut album A Constipated Monkey in 1994, following several years of singles and guest appearances with the likes of 3rd Bass and Del the Funkee Homosapien. Since that album, he continued to appear on record with friends like MF Doom and MF Grimm, but it was almost 15 years until he released a follow-up album, II, which showcased a newfound maturity and artistry.

We talked to Kurious about his career ups and downs, from touring with Nas and the Fugees to being stuck in a bad production deal for years at a time, etc”….
