” Super Duty Tough Work #122 “

On the latest episode of SUPER DUTY TOUGH WORK (Blueprint & Illogic) the duo delve into the changing face of Hip Hop production…It’s not too often I get to hear conversations like this, so it was a interesting breath of fresh air in many aspects (Even though I do not agree with some of the things mentioned)…
“In the winter of 1996, Blueprint bought his first sampler and began his journey as a hip-op beat-maker. During the last twenty years, things have changed tremendously; some for the better and some for the worse. In this episode, we dive deep into what the landscape looked like 20 years ago and how much it’s changed for the people who are making beats now”.

” Meyhem Lauren Heat “

I’m feeling this MEYHEM LAUREN & MUGGS joint “Niggas Is Pussy”…
WHY ?
What’s not to love about disgruntled bars such as, ” I don’t care about your rhymes, I don’t care about your raps, I don’t care about your guns, I don’t care about your gats- niggers is pussy”…It also helps that the visuals to accompany the track are stone cold !!!!
” Kings On A Mission “

Do yourself a favor and take a listen to this BBC Radio broadcast….
“In 1974, one of America’s most celebrated cultural figures declared graffiti as “the great art of the 70s”.
Back then, thousands of teenagers were vandalising New York, in particular the subway system. Yet Norman Mailer described their “passion”, their “cool”, their “masterpieces in letters six feet high”.
Who were the teens behind the “tags” – now the veterans of the scene? Why did they create this movement? Were they even thinking about art, politics, protest – or simply writing their names on trains?
BBC Radio 4 meets some of those who defied the law (and their parents) and diced with death including pioneers such as Riff 170, Jester, Coco 144, Flint Gennari, and Tats Cru. Their efforts have been replicated far beyond New York – in art galleries and in the hands of Arab Spring protesters – and yet their aspirations were largely apolitical: they were chasing fame and the acceptance of their peers.
The programme explores the city’s complicated relationship with graffiti, which it appears to condemn and celebrate in equal measure. Former artists – or “writers” as they prefer to be known – revisit their old haunts and discuss why they believe they had a right to “tag”, “bomb” and “destroy” New York with markers and spray paint.
The programme paints a vivid picture of a city that became a canvas at a time when, according to Norman Mailer, “it looked as if graffiti would take over the world”.

” 2018 Newness “

By now I’m quite sure you know what your in store for when you peep a THIRD SIGHT project : insane rhyme patterns, morbid tales of killings and murder, battle raps, lo fi beats, and all types of off-kilter shit with a San Jose Hip Hop sensibility…..Truth be told JIHAD has mastered his lane for a few decades at this point, and on his latest release the “Red Herring” mixtape he keeps his brand of originality on full blast mode….
JIHAD gives a nice glimpse into the making of this album on the WITZARD website (Beats, Lyrics, Cuts, & the Inside Story)…
“Red Herring is made up of tracks I recorded between 2008-12; production duties are held down by Mr. Aeks, Du-Funk, Drumboy, and Maestro Gamin. The cuts were performed by DJ Vandal from The Netherlands and there are two guest emcees: Maestro Gamin & Drew Fairweather (Crudbump.) The tracks were languishing on my desktop, until Awkward offered to master them. He mastered Orchids & Corpses (2016) the same way. He also, did tracks for Third Sight’s IV. In addition, he is remixing a narrative/comic book album, The Red Sentence, for me.”
” Kan Kick : Quaker State “

KAN KICK continues his consistent beat tape assault with the release of his latest “Quaker State 2″…Turn the volume up a few notches and catch a zone…
” Big Jacks : Original Recipe “

BIG JACKS from Toronto bring the sample source material goods on the “Original Recipe” mix…These type of sessions only catch my ear when the DJ covers under the radar joints -luckily for us JACKS keeps it thorough and unpredictable throughout…

” Black Sheep : Tortured Soul “

About 5 years ago BLACK SHEEP came into town and I decided to troop out with a couple of my dudes to see what was good…As I peeked inside the venue from the outside I noticed a very small amount of people in attendance..I felt some type of way by the lack of support for the duo…As I peered through the window DRES made direct eye contact with me and was visibly upset by the lack of supporters in the building…Mid verse he looked dead in my direction and yelled, “what the fuck are you doing out there, this ain’t no damn freak show bring your ass inside”…
Instead of catering to his demands, I sparked up a baseball bat size spliff, glanced at my dudes, let out a slight chuckle and promptly “diddy-bopped” back to my vehicle in a casual manner…It wasn’t my fault the so-called promoters didn’t do their job and it was looking naked in there..I came to the show with intentions of catching some type of flashback zone, get a record signed, and maybe release a couple laughs over a few high powered alcoholic beverages – Instead, what I witnessed was legendary figures not getting the respect and attention they truly deserved (I’m quite sure your familiar with the scenario)…
Regardless, it is dope that DRES still put’s out music to this day and adds to his ever expanding catalogue…I recently checked out his latest project “Tortured Soul” and to my surprise their are a handful of joints that sound really good…Especially this SHOWBIZ produced cut “My Right Brain”….
” Sam Hill : The Purpose “

SAM HILL & SHOWBIZ keep it strictly Bronx on a recent collabo “The Purpose”, from the upcoming HARDCORE RIGHTEOUSNESS album due out sometime this year..
” Blaq Poet : Declare War “

That dude from Queensbridge BLAQ POET returns with some newness on the recently released track “Declare War”…I’m not sure if him and Preemo will link again, but I’m excited to see what he has up his sleeves for 2018…

Palo Santo Discos brings the Brazilian goodness on this strictly 7 inch mix “60s Bossa Compactos V”. Summer is not quite over so grab a cool beverage, tilt your chair back a little bit, peep this session and get in the right mind frame to absorb these ultra rare Brazilian scorchers !!!
“DJ, crate digger and VF Home Grown alumni Palo Santo Discos has dipped back into his bag of Brazilian 7″s to share the fifth instalment of his Brazilian mix series, ’60s Bossa Compactos V.
The follow up to the last session earlier this year, the mix features rare and overlooked music alongside recordings from major Brazilian samba, bossa and jazz labels like Elenco and Copacabana.
As he said of his record collection, “I’m most proud of my bag of Brazilian 7’s because a lot of them I’ve found in Rio de Janeiro and they are not findable online. The picture covers are beautiful too.”

” Singapore Kane : 2018 “

SINGAPORE KANE is back on the set with some 2018 momentum…PEEP.
“With the upcoming full-length “Steel Pulse, Metal Veins” just around the corner. Boston, MA lyricist Singapore Kane follows up “Karma (It’s Your Turn)” with another thought provoking narrative. Reunited with Purpose [Tragic Allies] on production, “Live Raggamuffin” touches on the highly relevant topic of people who are projecting a fraudulent self-image/lifestyle to the world, those not willing to make any real progress but telling stories about their money, success etc in attempts to manipulate perception. Singapore Kane espouses taking an unyielding mentality when handling your business, without looking to gain from others using duplicitous methods”.

” DJ Cool V : Reading Is Fundamental “

Awwwww man, DJ Cool V just dropped his book “Symphony” that any self respecting Hip Hop head will go out and cop !!!!!! This kinda dropped out of nowhere, but I’m going to do whatever I can to get my motherfucking hands on this..
“We are bred to survive in only a fraudulent space where critical reflection is criminal. True love is a poisonous repellent and therapy is a death sentence. Sincerity becomes foreign, and our existence so uncomfortable, we struggle with acceptance. The barricuda in us celebrates bondage, has reservations about adulation and no knowledge of how to receive a gift. We are socialized to view one another as disposable and to forget. Erase your memories because they have no value unless acknowledged by the dominate society, but I refuse.
There are individuals that come along and enhance who you are; I will not allow any of my inadequacies to dictate my recognition of them. The Symphony is a celebration of people that have positively affected me. When life is unbearable, recalling valuable memories stabilizes pain, giving you the power to keep pushing. This I pray is the reassurance my Artifaction 18 needs to know I truly acknowledge the importance of them in my life”.
Yours Truly,

“Southern Vanguard : Kev Brown Heat “

Even though Kev Brown has always been somewhat consistent and solid with his musical contributions, I never really checked for his releases to heavy…Maybe it was because the majority of it seemed to formulaic and predictable to my ears…
I recently tuned into the newest episode of SOUTHERN VANGARD (Eddie Meeks & Jon Doe) and they played 5 back to back joints from KEV’s upcoming album “Homework” that definitely caught my ear though….He sounds hungry, the beats are rocking, and the overall sound has more of a sense of urgency feel (Which I appreciate, I’m getting tired of all this slow tempo shit – I crave variation Ha Ha)…Tune in and peep the exclusive flavors (His new album drops tomorrow)…
