" Yaggfu Front Newness "

Before Little Brother made their splash, there was a group called “Yaggfu Front” that put North Carolina on the Hip Hop map….

Jingle Bell, Deranged and Damage put out an amazing full length on Mercury Records (Action Packed Adventure) that was full of “left field” concepts, imagination, and fresh, heavily layered production……I can still remember how excited I was when I first heard it…

Now in 2011 the crew keeps pushing forward….For instance, they just released some newness on Sound Cloud….

Take a listen JACK !!!!!

" Hiero In The Mix 2011 "

Peep this mix by Emynd that rocks all Hiero cuts…..

“”The other day, I was on a quick road trip listening to Extra Prolific’s now classic “Like It Should Be” and it dawned on me that I needed to put together a collection of my favorite Hiero songs. And… so I did. 27 of my favorite Hiero joints, all of which come before the year 2000. This isn’t because Hiero stopped putting out good music after 2000. Frankly, I have no idea if they did or didn’t because I haven’t been paying attention… but these joints all bang and this mix is a fun trip down memory lane with a lot of great rap that has aged extremely well. I’d like to think this is a good introduction to the Hieroglyphics crew for those who aren’t familiar with their work, but also a fun listen to those of us who grew up listening to them. Anyway, I hope y’all enjoy it!”

" Saturday Night Live "

Since the weekend is here, it’s time to pull out that flame thrower shit….

This is much more than a mixtape……I would actually categorize this project as an archeological gem that will force you to listen repeatedly from front to back….

Aroe & The Sound Makers go all out on this session that is flooded with UK Hip Hop history……

“Crown Jewels Volume 1” is HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD’s top pick of the week without a fraction of a doubt, so quit stalling trooper and do the motherfucking right thing……

Strap on your belts real tight and prepare for heavy turbulence….

" Legion Of Doom Wreckage "

If you listened closely to the S-Rock “Hard To Find” mix that I posted up last week, you would have noticed an extremely dangerous cut by the Philly roughneck outfit, Legion Of Doom….

Group members Live & Charlie Bass put out a handful of singles and the much sought after album, Too Hard For The Radio in 1993 (If anyone out there has a copy of that album-please send me a link soon as possible)…

Anyway, LOD flipped that hardcore shit with no apologies, for instance on the menacing “Putting My Thing Down” lead M.C. Live yells, “Don’t think because your a bitch you can’t die next / these shotgun shells say unisex, One size fits all “……..

Or the equally abrasive, ” Get down or get laid down / and keep your motherfuckin mouth shut bitch cause I’m putting my thing down “

OUCH !!!!

" More Brazilian Steam "

Something about the music in Brazil/Brasil puts me in a uplifting mood (Especially if the song features a woman on the vocals)….

Hopefully one day I will be able to venture out to Rio De Jinero, until then I will settle for the mesmerizing sounds of this project by Antal…..

“Today we’re introducing you to some friends of ours from Amsterdam, Netherlands. Antal runs the Rush Hour label, record store and distributor. With KC the Funkaholic, he’s also running the Kindred Spirits label, which released many essential albums lately, from Jungle By Night, Woima Collective, Build An Ark or Carlos Nino for example… Antal went to Sao Paolo for a Dutch/Brasil cultural exchange program at the Bienal 2010. While there, he spent most of his days in record stores, here are some of the tunes he found. Unfortunately no tracklist”…

" 4 All My Wu- Headz, Part 9 "

At one point in time it seemed as if RZA could do no wrong….

Up until the release of Bobby Digital he set a new standard when it came to grimy beats….Somewhere along the way his production style changed and he started to incorporate more live instruments into the mix (Which altered his style for the worse in my opinion)…

Regardless I will always value his contributions to the art form…

SALUTE….

Peep this mixtape by J-Love that freaks all RZA joints….

" 1975 Live "

Whenever I need some extra dramatics to sprinkle on my beats I usually head in the OST department…..They are loaded with moody textures, and cinematic arrangements that are perfect for sampling….

Back in 1975 the outrageous “Black Gestapo” hit movie theatres……If you haven’t had a chance to see it, I highly recommend it just by the soundtrack alone…

Allan Alper brings his “A-Game” on this joint-DONT SLEEP…..

" Priority One Shots "

Even though I enjoy a lot of the music I hear in the new millennium, my favorite era for Hip Hop ranges between 1986-1989, it’s the time period that I refer to as the “Hardrock B-Boy Era”….

With the emergence of new technologies producers tried their hardest to push the envelope when it came to creative sampling, M.C.’s sounded hungrier than ever, and D.J.’s were on a mission to get recognition…

Ron Delite, Louie Louie (Who started out with T-La Rock and went on to work with 45 King, Queen Latifah, etc), and DJ Smitty B put out a monster album during this frame of time entitled, “Total Chaos” on Tuff City Records in 1989…..

It’s a motherfuckin shame that this record doesn’t get the attention that it deserves….Take a listen to these choice cuts and get your mind right duke !!!!!

“This Stage Is My Stage “

“You Know The Outcome”

" 45 Wreck On Deck "

Are you prepared for some official body rockers ?

You came to the right place homeboy because I have a special treat up my sleeves…….While scoping out the excellent Voodoo Funk blog I came across a session of 45 burners by a cat named Ken AKA Dankyi-Appah Safo Kennedy from Ghana…..

Do yourself a favor and scoop this up if you know what’s best for you…….POW,POW…..

" Beat Biterz "

O.P.P. does not stand for “other peoples privates”…..O.P.P. stands for other peoples productions…..HA !

The story of Kay Gee biting Tony D’s “Adam’s Nightmare” for O.P.P. is an old story for some ,but for many others this is brand new information….

Guru once said “Rap is an art you don’t own no loops”….

I can understand that sentiment (Somewhat), it’s another thing all together when you straight up rob someone’s idea though…..Not only that, both producers hail from New Jersey which makes the thievery even more foul….

Take a listen and ask yourself ,”what part of the game is this” ?

RIP Tony D 1967- 2009…

" Comedy Relief 5 "

The Bronx bomber Tim Dog is currently dealing with some type of legal issues, but I do not truly know the “in’s & outs” of the case so I’m not going to even go into that shit (I’m not a motherfuckin T.V. reporter)…

Regardless, Tim Dog’s first album “Penicillin On Wax” has managed to age very well in my opinion….Ced G & T.R. Love supplied him with heavily layered, dense, sample based collages that still pack a punch today…

In a recent article for Ego Trip “J-Zone” breaks down some of Tim’s illest one liners……..Funny indeed..

If your in the mood for a hearty laugh, check in duke…..

PEEP..

" Diamond D Rocks The Breaks "

Unlike many blogs out there, I usually take the time to listen to a project before I put it up…….I’m not one of those extra thirsty dudes that takes pride in the “quantity” of post they can pull off – I’m more into the “quality” factor when it comes to HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD….

I will make an exception for Diamond though of course…..I haven’t had a chance to listen to this two hour session of “D” slicing up breaks in Russia yet, but I’m quite sure it’s going to be an enjoyable listening experience…..
