WHEW….
I don’t know what the fuck is going on, but here in Vietnam, California it has been extra tropical for the last three weeks straight…Brothers are walking around with bath towels around their necks so you know it’s steamy out here..
HAHA..
From what I hear the rest of Cali is under a heavy heat wave as well, so it’s only right that I pull out some more fire….DON’T SLEEP.
Once again I’m going to feature some “under the radar” action from a Canadian artist…THE INCREDIBLE EASE “The Puerto Rock Popi” released a few fresh 12inches and a EP in the mid – late 90’s…
On this particular podcast he showcases a few cuts that you MIGHT have never heard before (The “All Praises Due” remix and “Play The Back” are extra flavorful if you ask me)..
Unfortunately EASE was recently diagnosed with Cancer, so send out some positive energy for the brother while he is in the process of recovery…
*the actual music starts at the 4 minute mark…

If you googled “Black I” on the internet, you would be hard-pressed to find any info about this Toronto M.C. who passed away before he received his proper due…
When I first heard this song (No Laws) in 1996, I knew for a fact that I was hearing some NEXT SHIT !!!!! The way he rhymed was absolutely crazy, and his flow was 100 % dangerous…I have been on a mission for over ten years to find anything that he has released . If you guys out there have some hidden Black I treats, or any stories about the man, please don’t hesitate to shoot me some information…
“No Laws”- From the Beat Factory Rap Essentials compilation…
* Recently the producer of NO LAWS hit me up, which made my day….PEEP.
“yo i wanna say respect first yo for giving it up for black i ,this is vince price aka Drk the man behind black i’s music and friend for 19 years deep. again respect from me to yall keep on reppin the real”.
And just to keep it 100, here is the video for the very fresh “Where I’m From”…MAESTRO FRESH WES makes a cameo on the set, keep your eyes peeled.
Rest in Power Black-I aka Frankie (1972-2006)
Black I’s foray into the world of Hip-Hop began when he started out as a dancer for hometown hero Maestro Fresh Wes along with childhood friend and future producer D.R.K. The duo, then known as “Ez Duz It” and “Do It EZ”, can be seen showcasing their skills in various Maestro videos such as “Drop the Needle” and “Conducting Things”. After wowing the country with his dance moves, Black I began his affair with emceeing, landing the D.R.K. produced track “No Lawz” a spot on the classic 1996 Beat Factory compilation album, Rap Essentials Vol. I. Black I would spend the next few years dropping singles but it would be his 2000 release “Where I’m From” that would garner him the most respect in the local Hip-Hop scene.
In the video for this now-classic track, Black I takes on the character of Frank Mint, a news anchor for Mega City News, a televison network created for the hood by the hood. It’s said that cats in Toronto rap had to change up their whole style after this record came out.
In 2006, Black I was hospitalized after suffering a brain aneurysm and passed away shortly after. His memories will always live on and we salute his contribution to the Canadian music scene.
Unfortunately my man 50 grand “KD” from DAILY DIGGERS has been MIA since the beginning of this year (as far as blogging goes)…He was coming with so much heat, I guess it was time for him to fall back and focus on other things…
So to pay respect to him, I feel I should post up one of his Breaks For Days radio excursions for all of those out there that know what time it is..
Salute to you Dom and the rest of the VINYL VETERANS CREW..

For instance, this limited ZONE hoodie will come in handy when Winter hits Vietnam, California…If your thinking along the same lines – head over there and tell them the grimy dude from HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD sent you..
I’m only at the 4 minute mark on this DJ Day “Way Out Of Living 2 mix, but I like how things are going down so far..
“It’s not often that Day blesses us with a new mix, but on the cusp of Land Of 1000 Chances, he took a second to put the instruments down and compile a set that gives us a rare glimpse into the musical inspiration behind the critically acclaimed new LP”.
Over the years I have posted 1-3 of the DOC DELAY “Medium Rare” mixes which showcased heavy doses of under the radar cuts…
So it’s only right that I give #4 some quality shine time….
Some of these cuts are so obscure you will be left in utter disbelief….If you think I’m bullshitting listen to this from front to back and attempt to play “Name That Tune”…
KENNY DOPE is the man behind the very fresh imprint KAY DEE RECORDS….If your on the hunt for some secret society 45’s or you need a little more soul power in your life – do the right thing and check in JACK !!
When you head over there make sure to tell him that the grimy kid from HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD sent you..
It’s crazy that you can still find top notch records out there in the “FIELD” for cheap if you stay diligent..For instance I caught this LALO SCHIFRIN “Bullitt” soundtrack piece for a couple bucks on a casual stroll yesterday just minding my business (now I finally have doubles)…
HAHA..
Anyway if your a fan of OST’s than I highly suggest you scope out the SLEAZY LISTENING blog..It’s unfortunate that they haven’t updated in quite some time, but there are enough active links to keep you busy for awhile…
“DJ Eclipse and friends are celebrating The Halftime Show’s 15 year anniversary. Since 1998, WNYU’s 89.1FM has been a staple of New York City’s underground hip hop scene every Wednesday at 10:30pm. DJ Eclipse, DJ Riz, and Lynn Gonzalez created The Halftime Show to showcase new artists and play records that otherwise wouldn’t have an outlet. Check out this video with narration by DJ Eclipse, DJ Riz, and Stretch Armstrong detailing the radio show’s history”.
Please don’t forget that HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD can strike at any time….Day or night, weekday or weekend so keep your motherfucking eyes peeled on a constant basis troopers..
Anyway, this HOBO JUNCTION “The Black Label” release brings back some good memories for the “KID”….SAAFIR used to record at my man’s crib and I used to roll through there to chop it up with him to discuss Hip Hop, Hobo Junction, upcoming projects, MIKE DREAM, turf talk, and all types of wild shit..
I was always thought he was on some next shit with his patterns and it’s a shame that he doesn’t get the proper credit that he deserves…..
If your a HOBO JUNCTION fan like Mr. Hip Hop Battlefield you will scoop this one up with a quickness…*This is such a limited release that fools are currently selling it on DISCOGS for over 100 bucks…
