” Legions Of Boom Steez “
OLIVER WANG puts the spotlight on the Filipino Mobile DJ scene in his new book – “Legions Of Boom : Filipino American Mobile DJ Crews In The San Francisco Bay Area”….You can cop the book HERE…..
And while your at take a listen to this hour long Q&A session with the author on the CYPHER PODCAST duke…
” Under The Radar Wreck “
No disrespect to anyone, but I have never been the fan of the term “RANDOM RAP”..I’m not exactly sure who coined that particular description, but I feel that it undermines the artist and belittles their contributions…Anyway, after finally finishing the CHECK THE TECHNIQUE 2 book by Brian Coleman I kept thinking about the chapter on the BEAT NUTS where PSYCHO LES mentioned his first production credit on the 2-2-4 “Ill Tempo” 12 inch with co-production from ROB SWIFT (MADD RECORDS 1988)…..
Like many of you I have never heard this joint, so being the dedicated Hip Hop student I am, I went and tracked down a clip to check it out (I seriously doubt I will find this rare piece of wax for under 300 dollars, so I guess You Tube is the next best thing, somewhat)….After giving it a listen I was seriously surprised it went under my radar – because it is very fresh to say the least..
” Iomos Marad : The Voice EP “
It’s been awhile since I have heard anything from Chicago rhyme slinger IOMOS MARAD, so it was nice to spot that he had a new EP out….If it was up to me to pick a single from this project to receive the wax treatment, “Despair” featuring SB would be my first choice….
” Summer Heat “
Major salute goes out to the entire staff at VENDETTA VINYL HQ for blessing me with these ADIDAS TOP 10 custom scorchers….These are so explosive that I might have to put them on stash mode for a few decades…
GOD DAMN…
It’s Hip Hop treats like this that keep a brother on his motherfuckin toes..
” Joint Of The Day “
“Livin in the ghetto, shit is real kid / shorties going all out – catching bodies, never doing bids”….
I’m going to take you all the way back to 1996 with the BX crew PEOPLE WITHOUT SHOES for some slept on goodness…”Ghettonetics” is loaded with ill crime narratives, plenty gun talk, and hypnotic, dusted out production that will keep your head nodding….Out of all the joints these dudes put out – this is my top ranking favorite….
” Southern Vanguard : Wise Intelligent Speaks “
I have finally recovered from my BORNDAY shenanigans and I’m fully charged up…It’s going to be a wild week on this side so make sure you stay tuned into the BATTLEFIELD if you know what’s best for you….
The SOUTHERN VANGUARD crew keep the 2015 momentum pumping with special guest WISE INTELLIGENT this time around..
” Boxcutter Bornday Business “
My Bornday is tomorrow, so I’m gearing up for some marathon DIGGING sessions for the next 48 hrs…..Big up to everyone that has supported the BATTLEFIELD for the last 8 years, it is appreciated….
MF GRIMM & I will be on the CONSPIRACY RADIO show with those guys out in the UK this Friday 6’oclock Pacific time, so make sure you mark your calendars for that….Also here is the snippets for BOXCUTTER BROTHERS 2 with AYATOLLAH & myself….Official illness on deck for you to bang out with duke (FEEL FREE TO SPREAD AROUND)….
Salute-
D

” Catch A Groove “
If your on the hunt for more groove morale in your life, CHECK IN DUKE !!!
“This tenth mix in the Standards, Versions & Revamps’ series closes the first chapter – the 1960s – with a selections of covers recorded or first released in 1969. Ranging from Jamaican reinterpretations of recent hits to soul takes on rock hits, those 40 minutes of (mostly) HEAVY SOUL should be fascinating to tryout as a party starter!”

” Golden State Warriors : The HD’z “
Since the Warriors won last night, it’s only right that I put the spotlight on a northern Cali Crew that deserve more “shines”….
When I watched the STONES THROW documentary awhile back, I couldn’t help but notice that a few names were mysteriously omitted from the film…RASCO (who had one of the labels biggest hits with the “UNASSISTED”, and the HOMELISS DERELIX)….The HD’z were a crew that emerged from San Jose with a hazy, dusted out, Jazzy vibe that immediately captured my attention…GRAND THE VISITOR & THE ARCHITECT sounded different than anything else out on the label, and it’s somewhat criminal that their names aren’t brought up more often when dudes are talking about ill groups from Cali in the 90’s – early 2000’s….
The good folks over at TI4TH recently posted up some rare HD’z material that you should peep..
” Doze Green Speaks “
“Green took some time to reminisce about the first time graffiti and Hip-Hop arrived to Hawaii. In the early 1980’s Green came to Hawaii with the RockSteady Crew and left an unimaginable impression on the graffiti and hip-hop cultures across the entire island of Oahu. This in depth look with Doze Green also features interviews OG Slick, Brisk and Prime, as well as archival photos from Ricky Powell and Martha Cooper. Be sure to check out this exclusive video. Mahalo!”
” Happy Bornday MF GRIMM Mix “
Today (June 11th) is my comrade MF GRIMM’s Bornday….
Since I have been a fan of his material since the early 90’s, I felt it was only right that I paid homage to his impressive catalog by putting a little spin on things..What you will hear is a barrage of secret society cuts, remixes, doubles, scratches, unpredictable twist and turns, B-sides, interviews, and all types of other explosives (feel free to spread around)….
Salute to you GRIMM for being a true warrior in this Hip Hop shit…Unlike a lot of other MC’s that have came and went, you will go down in the books as one of the best to ever do it…#FACTS
Secondly, here is the sequel to the BOXCUTTER BROTHERS saga with AYATOLLAH & myself…12 tracks of sample based illness that will send you into B-Boy frenzy…..If the first installment knocked you off your motherfucking rocker, part two is going to toss you straight off the cliff..
HAHA…
Vendetta Vinyl is now shipping this release worldwide, so pick up a copy with a quickness if your on the hunt for more chop morale in your life..
” Boom Shots On Deck “
WHEW…
DJ PATIENCE brings the certified goods on his latest mix “STRICTLY ROCKERS – Jamaican Roots Reggae, Funk, Soul, Ska & Dubs”….Over an hour of nonstop island action for your eardrums…
Highly recommended…
” Kutmaster Kurt : Beat Tape 1992 “
In my opinion the last fully enjoyable album KOOL KEITH made was MASTERS OF ILLUSION…A big part of that album’s success was the quirky, off kilter, sample heavy production by the slept on beat smith KUTMASTER KURT (maybe they will unite with Motion Man in the future for part 2, I will keep my fingers crossed)…
Anyway, “KK” has a very limited pressing of some beats he made in 1992 on his Bandcamp page that is worthy of your attention….Scoop up a copy before they disappear for good duke!!!
