” The U.N. : Time For Some Action “
Here is a unreleased track from the UN (Dino Brave, Laku, Roc Marciano, and Mike Raw) that might have slipped past your radar….
” Ayatollah Unkut “
*Above photo – B-1, AYATOLLAH & BOMB (yes that is the same Bomb who blew up the spot on LL’s Queens anthem FARMERS BLVD)…
My cuzzo AYATOLLAH recently received the interview treatment with ROB UNKUT out in Australia…..
Do you have a lot of unreleased music that you’ve been holding onto?
Yeah. I’ve got a couple of songs with B-1 that nobody’s ever heard before. We’re going to try to put together an album. That guy’s an amazing MC. He’s rhymed with Kool G Rap and Nas, Large Professor produced him. Xtra-P is one of my idols.
How did you meet Drasar for the Box Cutter Brothers series?
MF Grimm connected us together, he introduced me to Drasar. He’s the man behind the Box Cutter Brothers! I spoke with Drasar tonight and I was like, ‘When do we start Box Cutter 4?’ And he was like, ‘Now! Start sending music for the next one tonight!’
Have you got any funny digging stories?
One time I was in the Village – Soho, Manhattan – I had a couple of record spots I used to go to. One day Henry Wrinkler came into the record store where I was digging for records, and he was buying records! I turned around like, ‘You’re The Fonz!’ I shook his hand, I showed him the records I was buying, he showed me his. [laughs]
What was The Fonz copping?
He bought some Simon and Garfunkle records, he bought some Beatles albums. He told me he liked folk music.
” Kick Rocking “
It’s unfortunate that the majority of these “retro – back to the future” cats don’t understand that we rocked all types of different kicks in the 80’s, not just Nike’s & Adidas….
Lotto, Ellesse, Puma, Spot-Bilt, Playboy’s, Fila’s, Saucony, Clark’s, Le Coq Sportif, Timberland, New Balance, and many other types of shoes were added to the arsenal if they came equipped with interesting color schemes…Ever since ETONIC linked up with the LO-LIFE’S for an exclusive release, I have had my eye on the company once again (after falling off my radar completely since the early 90’s)……
” Mattnyce On The Wheels “
Here is the latest mix from the consistent DJ MATTNYCE….He blesses us with plenty under the radar rarities to rock out with…
” Body Rock Mode “
The good folks over at DIGGERS DIGEST come correct with the selections on this hypnotic “Les Antilles Chéries Part.2” mix….
“A selection from the West Indies Handpicked by Digger’s digest … While working on my new caribbean music compilations projects with Born Bad Records & Heavenly Sweetness, I made this quick mix with some of my favorite tracks of the moment … Hope you will dig it”
” Godfather Don Wreckage “
When I first caught wind of this unreleased CENOBITES (Godfather Don & Kool Keith) joint by Chopped Herring, I damn near lost my marbles….Godfather Don has been MIA for many years, so to hear him in his “prime” again is a straight up blessing to say the least..
Tracks:
A1 Cold Peein On Em (Remix)
A2 Hot Crib Promo Pt2 feat. Cage
A3 Pull The Trigger and Step
B1 Lazy Woman
B2 Break Em Down
B3 Your Time is Now
” Saturday Power Boost “
If your on the hunt for ultra obscure African groove morale – please head over to the AFRO 7 site….It’s flooded with so much jewelry that you could literally spend days downloading from this spot…
” Boxcutter Brothers 3 Business “
Ayatollah & myself (BOXCUTTER BROTHERS) are back on the set with a batch of new instrumentals for you to rock out with…..If you enjoyed part one and two – part three will force you to hit the panic button..Salute to everyone out there that supports the wreck…..

” Joint Of The Day “
Straight from NEW JERZ comes the “JOTD” by PACEWON & TONE LIV with “In One Ear”….This one needs the vinyl treatment without a fraction of a doubt…Cuts by MR.LEN.
” Volcano Sound System Steez “
The amount of Reggae icons that were murdered is downright staggering….PRINCE FARI, PETER TOSH, BOGLE LEVI, DIRTSMAN, KING TUBBY , MAJOR WORRIES, NITTY GRITTY, PAN HEAD, TENOR SAW and many others were taken away in a violent fashion….
For such a small island, it makes you wonder why the violence levels are so high…..In my opinion corrupt politics, obsession with materialism, drug smuggling culture, the IMF, poverty and revenge killings all play a part in the unfortunate scenario…
The mysterious leader of the VOLCANO SOUND SYSTEM Henry “Junjo” Lawes, also fell victim to gun violence at the age of 39….His top ranking sound system helped nurture the careers of Yellowman, Barrington Levy, Don Carlos, Frankie Paul, Josey Wales, etc…..
VOLCANO SOUNDSYSTEM SKATELAND – 1984
And here is a compilation that showcases “Junjo’s” tendency for heavy bass, well constructed melodies and aggressive riddims…”Volcano Eruptions”.

” Beatstrumentals 2 “
When I first started HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD 8 years ago, I posted up strictly instrumental mixes entitled “WAX WEAPONS”….I did so many of these that I actually got burned out on the concept and fell back from it completely (unfortunately the majority of these links are now broken so good luck tracking those down HAHA)….
BEAT PETE has been rocking many instrumental mixes over the years – if your unaware of him, BEATSTRUMENTALS 2 is a good place to start….
* I do NOT co-sign all of these productions, but I still think it’s worth checking out….

” Built To Last Mix : Killa Sha “
While we patiently wait for the posthumous release of “The Shepherd”, the BUILT TO LAST CREW out in France put together a mix that showcases KILLA SHA’s witty, raw and uncut approach to mic wrecking….
” King Tubby Salute “
KING TUBBY is one of my main inspirations when it comes to music..It’s a shame he doesn’t get the proper shines that he deserves, because he was a genius on many levels…
1…He INVENTED the low pass filter technique – which was adopted by many Hip Hop producers many years later and actually defined a certain aesthetic from the early to mid 90’s…
2…He might not have been the originator of DUB, but he pushed it to soaring levels and turned DUB into an actual art form in my opinion…
3..A trained electrician and repairman, TUBBY even went as far as building his own radio transmitter…
4…Helped guide and jump start the careers of SCIENTIST, KING JAMMY, PAT KELLY, BUNNY LEE, PHILLIP SMART, and many others…
5.. King Tubby’s Hi-Fi sound system was the first to unleash reverb on the general public…..
I could go on and on, but I will stop there and let DAVID RODIGAN go further in-depth about the life and times of a true innovator….DONT SLEEP…
RIP- Osbourne “KING TUBBY” Ruddock, (28 January 1941 – 6 February 1989) ..
” The Cipher Podcast : Episode 123 “
MF GRIMM & I are the special guest on the latest episode of the CIPHER PODCAST with Shawn Setaro out in Brooklyn, NYC…
“This week, we talk to MF Grimm, along with his producer and group-mate Drasar Monumental. Grimm is a rapper, producer, and now an award-winning comic book writer, who is just now making some of the greatest music of his long and storied career.
After growing up in the New York City of the 70s and 80s – and making a short stint as a child actor on Sesame Street – Grimm began his hip-hop career on the city’s battle scene. He quickly gained attention, started ghostwriting for more successful acts, and was on the verge of solo stardom when he was shot and paralyzed in 1993, in an incident that also killed his brother.
Grimm recovered, and even executive produced his friend MF Doom’s 1999 solo debut Operation: Doomsday, which was recorded in the basement of Grimm’s Rockland County house. Starting in 2001, he began releasing a string of powerful solo albums that molded the ups and downs of his life into powerful artistic statements. He also moved into another medium, writing the autobiographical graphic novel Sentences: The Life of MF Grimm.
Since 2012, he has been working on the Good Morning Vietnam trilogy of albums with our second guest, producer Drasar Monumental”.
