” Melanin 9 : Magna Carta “
That “MAGNA CARTA” album by Melanin 9 had some rockers on it…..I’m quite sure cats are going to say his flow is reminiscent of an early 90’s Nasir Jones…Sure you can hear traces of his influences with his rhyme patterns, but if you listen closely you will hear original wordplay that was obviously fueled by hitting the books heavily……..
Some of the played-out drum breaks he rocked over got on my nerves (a personal pet peeve)….He made up for it somewhat with a barrage of slick underworld narratives…
LONDON STAND THE FUCK UP !!!!!!
HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD TOP PICKS….
“Magna Carta”
“Red Snow”
“White Russian” featuring Roc Marciano…
” Sunday Night Action “
Earlier today I watched the “Red Bull BC One” B-Boy battles in utter amazement….I’m proud to see the next generation take this B-Boy shit to astronomical levels…
Remember when they told us that it was just another fad that would fade away in a couple years ?
HAHAHAHAHA……..
Anyway, Mane One keeps the momentum pumping on this Freestyle Session mix from a couple months back…Soul power, heavy drum breaks, wild arrangements, doubles, and all that other fly shit cuzzo….
” JS-1 : Rap Is Out Of Control “
JS-1 filled in for Eclipse last month on the “Rap Is Out Of Control” radio show…..Brand new flavors on deck…

” Live On The Set “
Scratch overlords Q-Bert & D-Styles, demonstrate why they are regarded as some of the illest DJ’s in the world on this live set from the Voodoo Music Experience 2012….
If this doesn’t inspire you to get your scratch patterns up, nothing will….
” M.F. Grimm Week, # 10 “
Large Pro & MF GRIMM set it off lovely over raw SP-1200 production by DJ Crucial on, “United”…..I was lucky enough to find this hot piece of wax in Chicago last week.. (it’s already sold out)…
Scratch sentences + buttery chops + veteran bars = WIN…..
” M.F. Grimm Week, # 9 “
For some strange reason after the “Pre-Emptive Strike” mixtape hit the 2000 download mark, the main link mysteriously got killed….I was extremely puzzled because it’s a motherfucking mixtape (big up to the cats that took it upon themselves to create new links, I SEE YOU) …
It wasn’t for sale, it wasn’t on I-Tunes or anything so I have absolutely no clue why someone would try to stifle progress….
Here is another re-up link for the die-hard troopers that missed it the first time around….
And while your at it- I highly suggest that you pre-order the new album GRIMM & I put together “Good Morning Vietnam”…..If your on the hunt for hardcore Hip Hop morale, you just found it..
” M.F. Grimm Week, # 8 “
* GRIMM always has fly album covers doesn’t he ?
Not to sound like your typical “THROWBACK BROTHER”, but I miss the days when cats would actually listen to an album from front to back….
In this “short circuit era” that we are currently living in, it’s seems as if the masses merely skim through a listening experience, instead of taking the time to truly absorb a full length release…
On that note – I recently went back and gave MF GRIMM’S “Digital Tears” a thorough listen…..Here are my top picks..
“All Ya’ll”…..”I seen million dollar niggas murdered over cheese / niggas pop shit, repercussions cop pleas”……
“Dr. Death”…
“Dancin”…
” M.F. Grimm Week, # 7 “
GRIMM & I both share a deep affinity for Reggae music……Being that half of my family is from the Cayman Islands (by way of Africa of course) it was commonplace to hear Caribbean flavors blasting out of the speakers in my household growing up……
In my opinion Hip Hop and reggae are one in the same…
Anyway, SUPERCAT is one of GRIMM’S favorite reggae artist…..He even unveiled to me that he spit rhymes for the DON in a impromptu street cipher session in the mid nineties….
HAHAHA.
The good people over at STEREO STEPPERS recently put together a SUPERCAT tribute mix that should hold your attention…

” M.F. Grimm Week, # 6 “
The Hip Hop nation has had to deal with tremendous loss in recent years..We are still reeling from the passing of iconic figures such as Jam Master Jay, Big L, Guru, Frosty Freeze, MCA, Heavy D, Stay High 149, Kase, Iz The Wiz, Tony D, Big Pun, Professor X, Old Dirty Bastard, Roc Raida and many others..
Speaking of the late great Roc Raida, he was the DJ for MF Grimm in the group, GRAVEDIGGAZ (this was years before the other “Diary Of A Madmen” crew assembled, RIP Poetic)..
Grimm created a heartfelt ode to his comrade earlier this year entitled, “Frequency” produced by Doc Singe with cuts by Rob Swift…….Turn the volume up and catch a zone..
RIP GRANDMASTA ROC RAIDA….
” M.F. Grimm Week, # 5 “
Back in June 12th of 2010 Grimm was the special guest on Conspiracy Radio (along with Stoupe, John Robinson, Son Of Bazerk, etc)…
This was around the time when he had just dropped, “You Only Live Twice”…He talks about comics, his Hip Hop pedigree, ghostwriting, and all types of other shit..
” M.F. Grimm Week, # 4 “
” Travel through the years of jealousy / it became a cancer to the family. Quest for money divided us / feels like they forgot you died for us “…………”10 Years Later” produced by MF Doom….(2004)
DAMN….
It’s songs like this that convince me to keep GRIMM material on steady rotation in the system…..
” M.F. Grimm Week, # 3 “
Peep this article about Percy Carey (MF GRIMM) with Publishers Weekly, that goes into detail about his comic book company, ARCH ENEMY…
” M.F. Grimm Week, #2 “
” My fault, I’m not trying to build fear / plus your crew knows your a loser, because your niggas ain’t even here “…..
This clip of GRIMM ripping the mic to shreds is labeled as Mr.C. freestyle, but I heard Bobitto yelling in the background so I personally believe this is from 89 tech nine with Stretch…
” The Return Of M.F. Grimm Week ”
Since Grimm’s newest album “GOOD MORNING VIETNAM” will be dropping in less than two weeks, (December,16th) it’s only right that I rock another M.F.GRIMM week on Hip Hop Battlefield….One of the things that makes GRIMM stand out amongst a sea of non-descriptive MC’s is the “quotable factor”…
Too many MC’s waste their breath when they rhyme for the sake of riddling (like Chuck D once stated)…Sure these cats fill their bars with all types of wordplay, but do their lines have poetic value ?
After listening to the song do you remember any proverbs, or any ill one-liners ? Unfortunately we are living in a era where mediocre rap cats receive all types of accolades for mediocre bars…
Grimm’s catalogue is flooded with quotable jewelry……
1.. “Day by day drama / cats dream about gatting the Manhattan Dalai Lama”……”BREAK EM OFF”.
2.. “Aim for your head because you don’t wear a vest there / bullet makes a window, your brain needed fresh air”………”EMOTIONS”.
3..“Emergency state, in my head I hear voices / some agree with me, some scold my choices”…..”TICK,TICK 2”.
4.. “New school rappers fail / they rhyme about crack sales and shootouts, but all that shit is duck tales”……….”TICK,TICK 2”.
5..“Tech nine dreams and mac eleven wishes / infra-red beaming on the target making sure their is no misses”…….”DO IT FOR THE KIDZ”.
6.. “I’m not afraid to die / but right now I’m afraid to live”…..”SCARS AND MEMORIES”……
7.. “New York is hot under the collar / it’s so easy to die, but it’s hard to make a dollar”……….”DEDICATED”.
8.. “Pitiful punks on my shit list / drop the S, now shit means hitlist”……….”KING OF NEW YORK”…
9.. “Fuck what ya heard, crime pays / for always, unorthodox I hold my pistol sideways”………”TAKE EM TO WAR”.
I could literally rock GRIMM bars for weeks, matter of fact I am currently in the process of trying to convince him to release a quotable – type book (maybe that will help some of these lames get their shit together HAHA)……..
Stay tuned on the BATTLEFIELD this week folks, I have plenty GRIMM material to unload (including a interview on Friday)…
OUT-
D
” Good Morning Vietnam: Pre-Orders “
After all these years of rocking HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD I never hit you dudes off with a sales pitch, and I never will, but what I will do is tell you that you need this MF GRIMM & DRASAR MONUMENTAL “Good Morning Vietnam” shit in your life…..
Aren’t you tired of all these Hip Hop weasels declaring they got that new hot shit when they don’t know what the fuck they are doing ?
Grimm & I have the remedy for all that nonsense……”Good Morning Vietnam” is nothing less than supreme hardcore craftsmanship created by two like minded individuals who live and breathe this Hip Hop shit to the fullest..
Our chemistry was so crazy that we are practically done with a sequel, “Good Morning Vietnam 2 – The Golden Triangle”….
I’m getting ahead of myself HAHA – The pre-orders for the wax are now available, so head over to VENDETTA VINYL before these sell out homeboy (CD’s are also available so don’t sleep)…….
” WE DON’T WAIT TO GET CHECKED IN, WE CHECK OURSELVES IN “……
*Snippets available next week…..
