It’s nice to see the “PURIST” getting some well deserved shines from his production work…..I have been checking his superb PYREX SCHOLAR blog for quite sometime (it is loaded to the brim with ill secret society records)..

On the latest leak from his upcoming EP, he brings along Big Twinz, Sean P & Havoc for more of that drama rap..

On this mixtape from a couple years back (Daily Bread) they go all out with the boulevard bully rap….Here are a couple cuts that will cause the average herb to tremble in his Timberland boots…

” High Powered Breaks “

DJ Lean Rock & B-Ryan come correct on this session that is flooded with secret society breakbeats…..

If your tired of hearing the same run of the mill breaks over and over, do yourself a favor and give this one a listen for some weekend groove morale..

DON’T SLEEP.

” Good Morning Vietnam Review “

Picture 6

Hip Hop student supreme, “KEVIN BEACHAM” recently rocked a review of GOOD MORNING VIETNAM by MF GRIMM & yours truly….

I can’t even front, dude went completely in…By the way he described “GMV” I could tell that he understood what our vision was/is…….

PEEP.

“The approximate 20-minute EP is meticulously put together in a seamless, but explosive fashion. The production is cinematic and dramatic, effectively providing a range of soundscapes for Grimm to make vital use of his years of acquired mastery and varied microphone mechanics. Even when the music is comprised of beautiful sounds, the gritty tuning and sparse programming of the drums keeps it grounded in the battlefield environment that the title suggests. The loops are charmingly imperfect. The words are aggressive and intelligent, with healthy traces of nerd-worthy references. The means in which the tracks melt and morph into each other never leaves time for a mental breather, the listener is enchanted for the duration and left hungry for repeated listens when the experience has concluded”.

” Vocabulary Spill “

Picture 4

When I first started HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD six years ago I would go on long tirades about how I felt about sucker MC’s, cornball dickriders, Hip Hop weasels, etc…I quickly realized cats came by the blog for the musical content, not to read my off kilter rants about anything I deemed fit…..So I deaded the soapbox approach and just stuck to the script…

But everyone once in awhile I feel that it’s necessary to let my machete swing (YA HEARD ME)…

1.” BACK TO THE FUTURE “.

If you have been listening to Hip Hop as long as I have – you fully understand that Hip Hop is constantly in a state of flux…..Trends come and go, certain slang gets outdated, the key is to stay FRESH…

RIGHT ?

But I think too many cats are trying to be innovative without understanding the foundation of this shit…Yeah you can make your sampler do a summersault, but can you make a simple groove memorable ?

2..” CRYBABY RAP “.

When I was growing up certain Hip Hop practitioners were like gods in my world….Matter of fact, the first time I heard of the concept of the black man being god was through Hip Hop…

We went from “You Must Learn” to the “Whisper Song”…..Yeah, I know that was corny, but you understand where I’m coming from…..

I’m tired of hearing all this tissue paper rap, someone needs to “BRING THE NOISE” again…

3..” REVENGE OF THE HERBS “.

On any given night I could go out on the town and get hit with half a dozen free CD’s from ASPIRING artist……Whatever happened to Hip Hop fans?

Back in the day where I’m from, if you weren’t seasoned you wouldn’t dare touch a microphone, get behind the decks in public, or yell all that Hip Hop shit unless you were fully prepared for some type of confrontation…

I guess cats feel comfy in this era without doing their homework…….

4.. ” BLACKOUT IN THE LAB “.

The project MF GRIMM & I put together wasn’t a “E-mail session type of situation”……We rocked out in the lab together…

Not that MP3 session studio work is a bad thing, but when your in the lab with someone your collaborating with, your able to create a certain type of vibe that is difficult to emulate through E-mail…

We went over every nuance with a fine tooth comb until we both agreed that we had some fly shit on our hands……If you enjoyed “GMV”, wait until you hear “GOOD MORNING VIETNAM 2 – THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE”….

5..” JAMIE OUTFOXED “..

I didn’t even plan on watching that “Django” shit, but my man hit me off with a copy the other day so I let it ride….

For a movie that is supposed to be so enlightening, I find it odd that I fell asleep 3 times on 3 different occasions before I finished the actual movie (true story)…

When I heard that Rick Ross song “100 Coffins” during one of the shootout scenes, I knew I was dealing with fuckery.

6..” All Hail The King “..

Martin Luther King Jr died for what he believed in…Even though we were treated less than human (and still are to some degree), he found it within himself to believe in the concept of humanity for ALL human beings….

We should draw inspiration from his example and try to make a better world for the young ones coming up….

7..” OUTRO “..

Big up to everyone that checks the BATTLEFIELD on the regular (I SEE YOU)….It’s a new year, new beats, new ideas, new books, new opportunities and all that…..Stay tuned I have plenty of surprises up my sleeve for 2013….

” Joint Of The Day “

Picture 3

WOW-

Shabaam Sahdeeq twice on the BATTLEFIELD within two weeks….To be honest I was never his biggest fan, but lately he has been going for his.

This time around he splashes the set over a explosive DJ Spinna concoction…Yeah, that dusted vocal chop of Earth Wind & Fire along with brutal cosmic bass stabs make for a bugged listening experience…

Sure the drums have been rocked a million times, but I’m still digging this shit…….Crank the motherfucking volume up cousin.

” Acknowledge The Vets “

Picture 2

I have to repost this KILLA SHA mixtape once every year just for the simple fact that it’s extra mean….

The way SHA was rhyming on this is just ridiculous…..

” Ayatollah On Production “

Picture 3

Ayatollah has been crafting solid beats for quite sometime…For some strange reason, he doesn’t get mentioned as often as he should when cats are talking about top notch producers..

” MF Grimm Speaks On Unkut “

Picture 3

Fresh of the heels of our latest release GOOD MORNING VIETNAM, Grand Masta MF GRIMM speaks to Robbie from Unkut for a in-depth interview…

Robbie: It must be exciting to release some new music.

MF Grimm: This time around with Drasar Monumental, I feel like I’m just starting my career now, working with him. I’ve never been able to work hands-on with a producer like I’m working with him. It’s more than music, we get along like brothers. It’s not about profit margin, it’s about making quality songs and music. I have so much to learn that it’s fun to be around him, we’re both students of the game. Every song we did was created on the spot, was written that same day.

What else are you doing these days?

I’m currently the president of a multi-media company called Arch Enemy Entertainment. We work with USA Today, which goes out to 11.9 million people, so I’m in film and television. I’m responsible for a lot of writers, illustrators and animators. Music is something which I can only do when I make time for it. I started working with them in 2008 in marketing, and I made president in 2011.
