” Highly Recommended : Booze Brothers Steez “
If your a dedicated HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD reader, than you already know how much I have been bigging up Philly Lo-Life mic wreckers, the BUZE BRUVAZ….
Him-Lo & Clever One finally get the vinyl treatment with the release of ” Cheesesteaks & Beat Breaks ” on Chopped Herring Records….I’m excited about this because you would be hard-pressed to find their material in any form whatsoever….
For the price of 15 bucks it’s a no brainer – so head over to CHOPPED HERRING with a quickness before these limited edition joints sell out (only 350 copies)…
” Pete Rock Live & Direct “
Take a listen to this live session with Mr.Soul Brother # 1 with STRAIGHT GOODS….
Turn the motherfucking volume up and catch a groove homeboy..
” Friday Heaterz “
Yesterday I gave this KILLIN FIELD “Criminal Street Slang” album a listen and I was surprised at how raw it is…
I am even more surprised that this slipped passed my radar back in 1999 when it initially dropped…These cats from Roxbury, Mass wear their influences on their sleeves, but “CRIMINAL STREET SLANG” still deserves some quality burn time…….

” Crate Raiderz On Deck “
Since the start of 2013 I have noticed that a massive amount of top notch blogs rarely update anymore, or have flat out called it quits…..
Here are a few reasons why…
1…Cats cruise through spots and rape someone’s whole content and repost the same shit on their blogs without giving credit…
2…Even if someone digs your blog and downloads all types of music, it’s doubtful that they will take the time to leave a comment (I can’t front, I’m guilty of this as well)..
3..When I first started HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD there were blogs out there, but nowhere near the amount that we have in 2013….Now everyone and their mama has one which makes it difficult to sift through all the fluff to find the gems…
I can go on and on, but I think you get the picture…
Unfortunately my homeboy from DAILY DIGGERS has fallen back from updating his spot….I truly hope he doesn’t throw in the towel because he is a thorough cat that added some jewelry to cyberspace…For instance, this CRATE RAIDERZ digging doc that he posted awhile back is highly recommended viewing…..
” 45 King Steez “
Rob Pursey recently rocked an all 45 King produced session for those cats over at SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY…
CHECK IN..
“DJ Mark The 45 King was perhaps (with the exception of Marley Marl) the first producer I remember just wanting to own all the records that he’d produced, remixed or had a hand in. The simple, hard hitting loops of some of his early classics coupled with the fact that all the MCs he worked with – Lakim Shabazz, Chill Rob G, Latee, Markey Fresh, Latifah etc. – all had the kind of flawless, commanding flows that just demanded you listen, mean that to this day it’s hard to compare his music to anyone’s and as a resul just have a ’45 King zone’ in my brain. Seeing him get his huge paydays later in his career with ‘Hard Knock Life’ and ‘Stan’ was perhaps, to me, one of the most rewarding stories in rap history, but this mix is definitely about that late 80s/early 90s zone that he just dominated for me. However, loving pretty much every damn record he produced, this had to be a Part 1 of sorts, as I could never have included all the gems that he committed to wax. Hell I even missed out my personal favourite ‘Court Is Now In Session’ just so I’d have to do another! Anyway, enjoy some of the most unheralded, but dopest rappers in history (along with a couple of well-known legends of course) over that classic Mark The 45 King sound. More dusty than digital – enjoy”.
” Blog Shots 47 “
Straight from France comes the Opus Dopus radio podcast….Even though I don’t co-sign everything they rock, I always hear something that makes my ears perk up…
When you head over there make sure to tell them the grimy dude from HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD sent you jack !!!
” Monday Funk Mode “
Here is the latest mix from Mr. VOODOO FUNK, who travels the world extensively in search for the perfect beat…
This time around he laces us with explosive Nigerian grooves that will jump start your Monday correctly….
TUNE IN…
” Under The Radar : Illwaukee “
Regardless of how thorough a Hip Hop connoisseur you might be, there will always be some ill shit that slipped past your radar….
For instance on this Milwaukee Hip Hop dedication mix by DOPE FOLKS – they throw in tons of joints from that region that are so obscure it’s ridiculous…..
I double dare you to attempt to play NAME THAT TUNE…
” Freestyle Professors On The Set “
The Bronx bombers the FREESTYLE PROFESSORS were the special guest on DJ Toshi’s Classic Storm radio show earlier this year…
Check in duke…
” Scratch Overdose, # 13 Repost “
*Originally posted September 21st, 2012.
It’s been awhile since I heard anything from the turntable wrecking ball, RICCI RUCKER…..The stuff he was doing a decade ago still outshines most of the scratch patterns I hear today…
Luckily I stumbled onto this project he rocked while on tour in Japan earlier this year…For some reason he doesn’t start scratching until the 20 minute mark, but when he does set it off – it’s straight up curtains…
Over an hour of wildness trooper…..
” Genius Status “
You already know what your getting with a J-Love mixtape : no blending, no scratching, no beat juggling, but tons of fresh material, exclusives, unreleased joints and him yelling over tracks….

” Hannibal Stax Wreck “
To be honest I had high hopes for MARCO POLO’S “Newport Authority 2” project, but after giving it a few spins I realized there were only a few cuts that really caught my attention (“Night & Day” by Big Daddy Kane was the winner)…
However, I believe the HANNIBAL STAX album that he dropped this week (Seize The Day) will be more explosive, due mainly to HANNIBAL’S no nonsense rhyme approach..
The good folks over at LOST TAPES put together a comp of unreleased “HS” material that will perk your ears up..
