Last week me and the Mrs. checked out Karriem Riggins, with special guest, Pete Rock at a spot called ” Yoshi’s ” in ” The Town “…… A.K.A. Oakland the ” City of Dope ” ……HAHAHAH..
Karriem is no slouch on the drums, I had no idea he was THAT dude on the sticks…Jazz drumming, Hip Hop style beats, broken beats, etc…..His vocabulary was extensive…
His backing band held it down without a fraction of a doubt…” Straight Ahead ” jazz cats with a wicked sense of timing and improvisation…( Amazing )..
What can I say about motherfuckin Pete Rock ?…..” Inspirational “…..” Deep Concentration “…..” Soulful ” would have to be the perfect word to describe how he got down….He played an assortment of beats from his massive catalogue with a couple suprises for good measure…
One of the illest parts of the night is when Karriem played drums while Pete dropped numerous cuts on the fly…I didn’t hear a single mistake during that whole entire segment ( even though it sounded like they were freestyling )…
All in all it was a dope event, with an appreciative crowd….Two thumbs up type shit…
