” From Mambo To Hip Hop “
Finally got around to checking the very thorough “FROM MAMBO TO HIP HOP” documentary recently….This is a heavy piece of work..
DONT SLEEP (Watch in it’s entirety)..
Another classic Hip-Hop documentary by Henry Chalfant. From Mambo To Hip Hop: A South Bronx Tale is an hour-long documentary that tells a story about the creative life of the South Bronx, beginning with the Puerto Rican migration and the adoption of Cuban rhythms to create the New York salsa sound; continuing with the fires that destroyed the neighborhood but not the creative spirit of its people; chronicling the rise of hip hop from the ashes; and ending with reflections on the power of the neighborhood’s music to ensure the survival of several generations of its residents, and, in the process, take the world’s pop culture by storm.
” Fly Material “

” DJ Sheep Speaks “
Here is another Australian treat for the the HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD massive – world renown DJ / producer / record dealer DJ SHEEP speaks with BLOG LP for a in-depth session that will hold your attention…..
What are you listening to right now?
Phill Most Chill – All Cuts Recorded Raw LP and before that I was listening to DJ XXXL Nippon Breaks & Beats – Volume 4 CD.When did you start collecting records?
When I was in high school, there used to be this radio station once a month at lunchtime, these two guys would set up a DJ console and play songs over the schools loudspeakers. One time they asked students to bring in a record if we wanted a “lesson”. The guys just showed us how to do basic radio cueing. Like winding the record half a spin back, then pressing the start button, and how to fade it in.I started collecting music since I was about 11 or 12 years old. But I was recording stuff from the radio earlier than that. I was collecting tapes first, and then it was CDs and bits and pieces of vinyl here and there for the bands I was fanatical about (Run DMC, N.W.A. and Public Enemy, for example)… I didn’t start collecting anything but hip-hop and electro until the late 90’s. I was sent a tape then by a guy called Soulman (Phill Most Chill) because I used to write for magazines and he sent it in for review, the tape was called “World Of Beats – Volume 2”, that tape always intrigued me, however I didn’t really understand it… it was a tape with samples from some of my favorite hip-hop songs and some other soul, jazz and funk songs. I used to always carry it in my backpack and play it in my mates cars… Curiosity killed the cat and I wanted to figure out what those records were.
It all started happening when the ABC (radio station) in Brisbane sold their entire record collection over a year-long period in the city. Every hour or so, new records from their library would hit the shelf in a mock-up store in the CBD. It was myself and my man James and Kenny who started diggin’ for things other than hip-hop then, the year 2000 was when it really started poppin’ off. I had some good mentors; DJ Damage, Hams and Arks, who showed me basic things like Ramsey Lewis, CTI Records, Prestige, Curtis Mayfield, Bob James, John Klemmer, Roy Ayers, etc.… and then “diggin’” turned into a monster which I really can’t control anymore. I’m still hunting records off that World Of Beats 2 tape, that really set the blueprint for my digging excavation and musical excursion. Thank you Soulman. You changed my life, not Dilla!
” MK-1 : Brazilian Beats & Breaks “

” Sound Traveler Series # 1 ”
“For this first installment of Sound Traveler which is sure to be a long running series for Record Breakin’ Music, I decided to focus specifically on tunes that were given to me directly by artists and independent labels during my travels across the globe. Of course each selection comes directly from a vinyl source, after all Record Breakin’ is a label that understands the importance of pressing physical media so we wouldn’t do it any other way? In addition to those aforementioned I also decided to throw in a few cuts from some of my favorite albums that I have collected throughout the years. Genres include everything from Hip Hop to Jazz with a few Electronic touches and Radio Spots in between. And since everything was done with vinyl, it was also done in real time, no edits or corrections to flaws which give it an even more sense of authenticity.
Hopefully you will enjoy this mix as much as I enjoyed making it and it’s an honor to be featured in this brand new series known as Sound Traveler.”

” Attack Of the Killer Demos, # 14 “
Regardless of how I feel about the majority of Del’s most recent material, he has definitely earned his spot in the books as one of the most off kilter, bugged out, creative cats of the 90’s and beyond….And with the right beats I still feel he can do a lot of damage out there..
I recently stumbled onto some Del demos from the late 80’s that I’m quite sure you will enjoy….VIA-TI4TH..
