” King Tubby Salute “

Picture 4

KING TUBBY is one of my main inspirations when it comes to music..It’s a shame he doesn’t get the proper shines that he deserves, because he was a genius on many levels…

1…He INVENTED the low pass filter technique – which was adopted by many Hip Hop producers many years later and actually defined a certain aesthetic from the early to mid 90’s…

2…He might not have been the originator of DUB, but he pushed it to soaring levels and turned DUB into an actual art form in my opinion…

3..A trained electrician and repairman, TUBBY even went as far as building his own radio transmitter…

4…Helped guide and jump start the careers of SCIENTIST, KING JAMMY, PAT KELLY, BUNNY LEE, PHILLIP SMART, and many others…

5.. King Tubby’s Hi-Fi sound system was the first to unleash reverb on the general public…..

I could go on and on, but I will stop there and let DAVID RODIGAN go further in-depth about the life and times of a true innovator….DONT SLEEP…

RIP- Osbourne “KING TUBBY” Ruddock, (28 January 1941 – 6 February 1989) ..

” The Cipher Podcast : Episode 123 “

Picture 10

MF GRIMM & I are the special guest on the latest episode of the CIPHER PODCAST with Shawn Setaro out in Brooklyn, NYC…

“This week, we talk to MF Grimm, along with his producer and group-mate Drasar Monumental. Grimm is a rapper, producer, and now an award-winning comic book writer, who is just now making some of the greatest music of his long and storied career.

After growing up in the New York City of the 70s and 80s – and making a short stint as a child actor on Sesame Street – Grimm began his hip-hop career on the city’s battle scene. He quickly gained attention, started ghostwriting for more successful acts, and was on the verge of solo stardom when he was shot and paralyzed in 1993, in an incident that also killed his brother.

Grimm recovered, and even executive produced his friend MF Doom’s 1999 solo debut Operation: Doomsday, which was recorded in the basement of Grimm’s Rockland County house. Starting in 2001, he began releasing a string of powerful solo albums that molded the ups and downs of his life into powerful artistic statements. He also moved into another medium, writing the autobiographical graphic novel Sentences: The Life of MF Grimm.

Since 2012, he has been working on the Good Morning Vietnam trilogy of albums with our second guest, producer Drasar Monumental”.

“1xRUN is pleased to present the definitive book on Los Angeles graffiti originator and icon RISK. With a career spanning over four decades RISK recounts his history, failures, success and of course the many brushes with the law.

Over 350 pages and 700+ many never-before-seen photos help navigate the reader through the story of Los Angeles graffiti and how it was shaped. From the very early 80s to present-day, RISK has not slowed down but instead has continued to evolve, remaining at the forefront of the culture. Over the years, many graffiti writers and street artists have come and gone, but RISK has established that he is here to stay through his constant progression and his willingness to stay true to his art. This book narrates his role as one of the pioneers of graffiti in Los Angeles and his aim to not only push the boundaries of his own art but also help elevate the graffiti movement to worldwide recognition.
Read stories about climbing and painting one of the first LA freeway signs later dubbed Heavens, painting the set of a Michael Jackson video, getting shot at in the infamous Motor Yard, to painting backgrounds for Playboy magazine shoots. The many stories and events that encompass the journey of RISK are impressive and inspiring, fully illustrating his extraordinary ambition”.

” Pezo 120 Mix : Reup’s “

Picture 2

*Originally posted 8/11/13

My cuzzo PLANET ROCKS / PEZO was at the crib (WAX MUSEUM) a few weeks ago laying down this VENDETTA VINYL powered mix to honor the Oakland graff crew “GFC” (If you don’t know, GFC is a massive crew that carry on the tradition of skills over lip service, each one teach one, knowledge of self, and staying productive and active)..

“P” was about to call it a day at the hour mark, but the mix was sounding so monstrous I told him he should add on another hour to take “motherfuckers over the edge”…
So to add more fuel to the fire he stacked on ANOTHER 60 minutes of straight heat for ya’ll…Also you should keep in mind this is a off the top of the dome, strictly live, all vinyl mix from front to back..Salute to the entire GFC, everyone at Vendetta Vinyl, NORTH STAR ZULU’S, and my brother PEZO for keeping those flames burning !!

If your looking for some high-powered Hip Hop frequencies, you just found it troopers.Big up to all the independent labels putting out that fly shit.

” Don Status “

Picture 4

A few months ago I went to a huge Reggae festival that dubbed KING JAMMY as the headliner, unfortunately he didn’t show up due to visa issues……

Maybe one day I will be able to catch the “DON” in action, until then this comp will hold me down – “1985-1989 Part1, Dub Vendor Records”…

“The “Digital Revolution” occurred in the Jamaican music industry by a single rhythm called “Sleng Teng”. The responsible person for the rhythm was King Jammy who was the owner and producer of the Jammys label. The label dominated the scene between 1985 and 1989, and released a vast number of material. Dub Store Records compiles the best of the 80’s heavyweight Dancehall from the Jammys catalogue. The collection consists of “Disc One: Vocals & Deejays” and “Disc Two: Instrumental Dub Version”, featuring popular songs and instrumental dub versions on the “Heavenless”, “Love Punanny Bad” and “Far East” rhythms, among others. They also include rare collector’s tunes like Anthony Johnson’s ‘Dancehall Vibes’, and some of the tracks appear for the first time on digital format. This is a crucial selection for all Dancehall lovers”.
