” Under The Radar “
The production duo the SHOGUNZ just released the “Cosmic Tripping” project on BLUNTED ASTRONAUT RECORDS..These cats hail from the Netherlands and they come equipped with beats that are laced with booming drums, heavy layers, etc…..
Some of the rhymes are SUSPECT in my opinion, but it’s a decent listen regardless…
Here is HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD’S TOP PICKS…”Minor Trip”, “Bugged Out, “Ode To NY”….
“Bugged Out”
“Ode To New York”
” Ricci Rucker Wreck “
It’s been awhile since I heard anything from the turntable wrecking ball, RICCI RUCKER…..The stuff he was doing a decade ago still outshines most of the scratch patterns I hear today…
Luckily I stumbled onto this project he rocked while on tour in Japan earlier this year…For some reason he doesn’t start scratching until the 20 minute mark, but when he does set it off – it’s straight up curtains…
Over an hour of wildness trooper…..
” Blog Shots 42 “
I’m not stingy when it comes to sharing other blogs that are holding the goods….
Matter of fact, the “HARD,RAW,DEEP,FUNK” blog is flooded with jewelry if your on a quest to find rare, out of print, funk mode goodies like the unreleased “Shorty The Pimp” O.S.T pictured above..
When you head over there tell them the grimy dude from HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD sent you jack!!!!
” Friday Firepower “
Since it’s Friday I know you are looking for a power boost to jump start your weekend fiesta….
Back in 2009 my man “PLANET ROCKA” from Funk What Ya Heard put together this mix for Wild Style Technicians….Doubles, blends, great selections, and well thought out compositions make this session a certified head nodder…
” In this mix I flip doubles, trick mix, BEAT MATCH, flip blends, and throw a couple of drops in from the peoples that support me… This mix was made a few months back but at the time ALL the tracks were very NEW and EXCLUSIVE.. Some of you might be up on these (I HOPE) and some of you might not be up on them…. But hopefully you just enjoy it for what it is, GOOD MUSIC…Respecto”

” Milkcrate Jewels, 35 “
It’s been a minute since I splashed ya’ll with some milkcrate jewelry, so without further delay let’s get into this….
The mysterious Brooklyn crew “Candystore” put out a couple singles in the mid-late 90’s….”Escape From Belize” stills sounds just as rugged today, as it did when I first heard it…
If anyone out there has any info about “Menage”, “Lifty” & “Crimes” send it my way (you will be hard-pressed to find any info about the trio on the internet)….
“Escape From Belize” produced by Jerry Callender…Keep It Moving Records 1996…

” Beat Junkie Sound “
Are you prepared for a healthy dose of secret society drum breaks, Japanese soul power, doubles, and all types of fly shit that will force you to hit the rewind button ?
DON’T SLEEP !!!!
This is what Babu had to say regarding his latest project, “Konnichiwa Bitches”….
“Several months ago my friends B+ and EC hit me up about doing a mixtape consisting of Japanese records. B, E and myself had all been on ridiculous digging missions together before and they had known that I had lost my mind in japan a couple times copping Japanese joints… so this idea made perfect sense… this mix contains a lot of tv and movie soundtracks and scores, studio background music, amine soundtracks, funk, pop, rock & soul with the common thread being dope funky music! I hope u enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed putting this together!
– Peace, BABU/DILATED/JUNKY”
” Joint Of The Day “
Showbiz & AG’s “Mugshot Music” will finally see the light of day on October, 9th…I wonder if this release will get the vinyl treatment (keep your fingers crossed)…
“Walking On Air” featuring A-Bless is another brilliant leak that will help you get your mind right….
Turn the motherfucking volume up!
” Brazilian Body Rockerz “
Sometimes it gets a little hectic on the BATTLEFIELD, so every once in awhile I will soak in the beautiful sounds from Brazil…Nah, I do not know Portuguese, but I do know flavorful grooves when I hear them…..HAHA…
DJ ELAN (SF) takes us on a wild journey through sound with “Viagem Pelo Universo Brasileiro”…..

” The Art Of Rap “
Finally got around to watching Ice-T’s documentary “The Art of Rap” a few nights ago….It started out strong but somehow along the way things started to unravel for me…
1…The way Ice-T treated the onlookers on a busy NYC street was uncalled for….He dismissed them as if they were peasants instead of fans, gotta blow the whistle on that one..
2…Calling “Eminem” one of the greatest MC’s is highly debatable…
3..No mention of Kool G.Rap and many other pioneering MC’s..
4…Why focus on Dr.Dre when it is widely known that he never crafted his rhymes?
5…Sure Dougie Fresh will go down in the books as one of the best beatboxers ever, but as far as lyrics, you missed me on that one…
6..If “T” called this documentary “My Hip Hop Buddies”, or “Hip Hop Interviews from 2009-2012”, I wouldn’t have any problems, but if you call it the “Art Of Rap” brothers like me are expecting some next level shit…PERIOD !
Don’t get it twisted there are some golden moments (Grandmaster Caz stole the show in my opinion), but if you are already a “true to the grain” Hip Hop head you won’t find many surprises in this film…
” Attack Of The Killer Demos, 14 “
I ran into Saafir a couple years back at my dude STATE’S crib while he was in the middle of recording…..He was surprised that I knew so much of his material…
What surprised me is that he didn’t own a copy of “Boxcar Sessions”..
He also discussed his conversion to Islam, UFO’s, punk ass MC’s, O.P.D, Mike Dream, Hobo Junction, and all types of wild shit that kept my attention….
At the time I had high hopes for his re-entry into the spotlight with “GOOD GAME – THE TRANSITION”…It was a decent project, but I’m curious to hear what Saafir is up to in 2012 (Last I heard he was playing the role of Monster Kody in a upcoming movie)….I guess these “Boxcar Session Demos” will hold me over until he drops some new shit….
” Hip Hop Morale “
One of my biggest Hip Hop pet peeves is when dudes declare that they “USED to get busy on the mic”…Or they “USED to practice on their scratches”….Oh yeah here is another one, they “USED to support Hip Hop but it wasn’t paying their bills so they had to grow up”….
GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE…..
Hip Hop is not a hobby in my opinion….It’s a life long commitment that requires constant study, cross referencing, refinement of skills, showing & proving, etc….
Anyway, former Wee Bee Foolish member KEN BOOGALOO is thinking along similar lines on his newest cut, “Hip Hop Head Till I Drop Dead”…
CHECK IN DUKE.
