” The Original Redman “

Picture 5

Do you really think it’s a coincidence that RZA rocked the BOBBY DIGITAL moniker years after the original BOBBY DIGITAL had already established himself firmly in Jamaica ? Do you really think it’s a coincidence that Reggie Noble chose the name REDMAN a decade after Jamaican producer Hugh “REDMAN” James laid down heavy groundwork on the dancehall set?

Maybe cats believe the audience are not concerned with history whatsoever and these issues would never come up – Or they just straight up bit their name….

HAHAHA….

Regardless Hugh “REDMAN” James was far from a slouch when it came to composing explosive riddims in the mid 80’s- early 90’s, and this comp of goodness is a fine example of that (Digital Roots Dancehall-REDMAN INTERNATIONAL)…

” Motion Man : Adult Situations “

Picture 2

It’s a damn shame that when cats talk about west coast Hip Hop shit – MOTION MAN’s name doesn’t pop up enough…This cat is truly in a class by himself when it comes to off-kilter, unorthodox stylings on the mic..

One of his most slept on offerings “Adult Situations” from 2010 is finally getting the wax treatment (HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD TOP PICKS – “Pouring You More Champagne”, “Your The Woman”, “Close Call” & “Tell Me What You Want” original version)…

“For his latest endeavor, he teams up with producers Unagi and Jethroe, for a concept album exploring the ins and outs of male-female relationships. Adult Situations covers all aspects of love, lust, courtship, seduction, and romance, with 12 tracks of freaky tales as only Motion Man can do it. Featuring guest appearances from Lyrical C and D’WYZE (of The B.U.M.S), plus remixes by KutMasta Kurt and TOMC3, it is relentlessly funky from start to finish.

This new version of the Download includes Bonus Remixes for Night Stroll, and Porno Mustache along with the Full Ableton Live Session files for Porno Mustache and Pouring You Mo Champagne. If you are an Ableton Live user, you will have all the Vocal and Musical elements at your disposal for DJ ing and remixing.

Don’t sleep! Only 500 hand numbered copies pressed for this 5th Anniversary Vinyl Edition!”

EMSKEE lets loose over rugged SP1200 chop work by Vinyl Veteran MAC MCRAW on “It’s About Time”…..Head over to the Cold Rock Stuff site and cop doubles while supplies last cuzzo, and when you head over there – tell them the grimey dude from HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD sent you!!!!…

Track Listing:

A1. It’s About Time (2015 Raw SP Version)
B1. It’s About Time (1995 Demo Version)

“Mac McRaw and underground New York emcee Emskee met purely by chance whilst sharing the same subway carriage in Brooklyn back in 2012. The following day they reconnected at Big City Records in Manhattan for the closing of the legendary store, leading them to discussing a possible collaboration project in the future. Fast forward to early 2015 and on hearing, and really feeling, Emskee’s unreleased 1995 Nick Wiz produced track ‘It’s About Time’, Mac asked Em about releasing it on a 7” with a McRaw remix on the flip. Emskee was totally down with the idea but came up with an even better one; revising his lyrics and re-recording them for a completely new version”.

” Doze Green Drops Jewelry “

Picture 3

“This past February 1xRUN brought legendary artist Doze Green back to Hawaii for POW!WOW Hawaii 2015 and in between painting a massive wall Green took some time to reminisce about the first time graffiti and Hip-Hop arrived to Hawaii.

In the early 1980’s Green came to Hawaii with the RockSteady Crew and left an unimaginable impression on the graffiti and hip-hop cultures across the entire island of Oahu. This in depth look with Doze Green also features interviews OG Slick, Brisk and Prime, as well as archival photos from Ricky Powell and Martha Cooper. Be sure to check out this exclusive video. ” Cratery 75 “

Picture 3

On this newest episode of CRATERY they bring along unheralded producer RASHAD SMITH…

“In the first ever conversation-based version of our podcast, we uncover the untold history of one of hip-hop’s many unsung heroes.

And I don’t use the word untold by accident.

In trying to research material for our chat, I found it odd that I couldn’t find a single article or interview about a dude who had made some of the biggest smashes in hip-hop history.

This is a guy who Howie Tee, Rakim and Diddy all took under their wing.

A vinyl fiend who’s logged countless hours in the dingiest of basements with the likes of Q-Tip and Da Beatminerz.

A former record store employee who has given your favourite beatmakers some of their most notorious samples.

An uncredited ghost producer on more than a few rap classics”.

” Ayatollah Wreck “

Picture 2

When it comes to Hip Hop my cuzzo AYATOLLAH is a triple headed monster in this shit..He is known for crafting beats, but he is nice with the mic and the blackbook as well…..On “The Candy Tangerine Man” he flexes flashback bars over a somber composition that will have you reminiscing about days of old….

If your unfamiliar with the blaxploitation movie “The Candy Tangerine Man” that he named this song after – I highly recommend tracking down this rare gem…

” Joe Conzo Speaks “

Picture 1

The Cipher Show is quickly becoming one of my favorite podcast (be on the lookout for the upcoming interview with MF GRIMM & myself in a few weeks) Shawn Setaro has the uncanny ability to get his guest to open up in ways that hold your attention…This time around Joe Conzo gets the Q&A treatment..

“Joe Conzo Jr. has been called “the man who took hip-hop’s baby pictures” by the New York Times – a title that’s right on the money. Conzo, a third-generation Bronx native, first got into photography as a young boy and took to shooting pictures of his neighborhood.

Personal troubles caused Joe to put away his camera for many years. But over the past decade, his work has been re-discovered and used for documentaries, exhibited in museums all over the world – including the Museum of the City of New York, where an exhibit of his photos is running until September 27th – and even published in a book, Born In The Bronx: A Visual Record of the Early Days of Hip Hop. A fictional version of Joe appears in Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Netflix series The Get Down, about the early days of hip-hop, where the real Joe was on set as a behind the scenes photographer”.
