” MF Grimm & Drasar Monumental – Preemptive Strike “
About a year ago I put together a mix showcasing nothing but MF GRIMM material. If you missed it the first go-round here is your chance to snatch it up cuzzo..Doubles, blends, remixes, under the radar verses, and all types of other wild shit..
I got such a good response from this when it first dropped that I’m seriously thinking of making a follow up before 2013 comes to a close…
Keep your eyes peeled..

” Comedy Relief “
“Cool J is back on the map,and when I see ya I’m going to give you a slap / you can get killed for that crap because Sammy Davis Jr aint supposed to rap”…
HAHAHAHA…..
If your into heavy detail like Mr. Battlefield you would have noticed that the “my old gym teacher aint supposed to rap” bar, was replaced with the hilarious Sammy Davis Jr line….
A couple other alterations are made on this live version of “Till The Break A Dawn” at Chuck Chillout’s birthday bash in 1990 that will make you explode with fits of laughter….
” Lo Rock Steez “
Trendy gear comes and goes, but when you stick to the classics you can never go wrong in my opinion….I promise you that in a couple years if you try to rock some of these new age brands – your going to feel like a straight cornball in the streets….
So head over to the FASINFRANKVINTAGE spot to keep your arsenal high powered if you know what’s best for you…
” MF Grimm & Drasar Monumental : GMV-2 Review “
You know it’s going to be a good day when you wake up and spot a “5 out of 5” rating for an album that you took part in….What makes this occasion even better is that the person who wrote the review lives in a different country, doesn’t know me whatsoever on a personal level, and seems to be well versed in Hip Hop, past and present…
My only complaint is that CLAAA7 referred to me as a newcomer….I understand where he is coming from somewhat, but I’m far from “NEW TO THIS”…
1..I have been involved in all elements of this artform since I was a child (my father was in a mobile DJ unit crew in my formative years, so DJ’ing is in my blood)…
2..Over the years I have “put out” a wide array of mixtapes, remixes, productions, etc…
3..I’m a member of a few heavyweight crews that are DOWN BY LAW….Period. (NSZ/GFC/AYAK)…..
4..Hip Hop Battlefield has been up and running for nearly 7 years…Those years have included countless live mixes (BATTLEFIELD FUNK RADIO), interviews, and all types of action…
5…Even though some might be aware of me from the DJ/production side – I also have slayed many suckers with my rhymes…..Ask around, you might find out that my bars are dangerous as well cuzzo….
6…A few Hip Hop notables have rocked over my beats in the past…Go track that shit down if your halfway interested…
7..I could go on and on about my life long dedication to this artform, but that would seem as if I’m trying to pat myself on the back….Take a listen to the music, I’m quite sure you can tell it was made by someone who has studied the scrolls for a long period of time…
As far as the review goes that’s my only true gripe..Salute to you CLAAA7 for taking the time to go in-depth with our music it is appreciated to the fullest…..
Legendary, yet unfortunately often criminally underrated, emcee MF Grimm and relatively new-on-the-scene producer extraordinaire Drasar Monumental is back with “Golden Triangle”; the very limited vinyl only release of the sequel to last years slamming “Good Morning Vietnam”. In my original review of the aforesaid project I gave the 7 tracks EP a 4/5 rating, a rating which I still stand by, but the second installment in the series is even better in most every respect, and works as both a stand alone piece and as a complete back-to-back listen together with the first EP. On “Golden Triangle” the chemistry between Grimm and Drasar has been even more solidified into one of the most magnificent emcee/producer collaborations in recent memory; the music is more powerful and dynamic; the album’s metaphorical key themes have seriously been amplified and weaved into the music on a whole ‘nother level, through both powerful skits, samples and Grimm’s lyrics; and the running time and included tracks is almost twice as much amplifying the original EP into a full-blown LP.
” Style Warz : Round 5 “
The ongoing battle for supremacy between TMT & TC5 continues as we speak…For round 5 these two legendary crews pulled out all the stops for the aerosol championship belt…
On the TMT side my dude KHUFU ONERZ (the man responsible for the “GMV” 1&2 cover art) joined in with SKEME & CHAIN 3 to rock a Zulu anniversary car that is straight up ridiculous…
And for the TC5 section we get DOC & SYE going for theirs…..
Quit stalling and cast your votes for the best production troopers…This battle will definitely go down in the books as a classic style fest (click on photos to further analyze the wreckage)..
” Sure Shot Steez “
If you never heard JAPHIA LIFE’S first album “Pages Of Life”, please go track that down and be prepared for some shock treatment (2000 Ready Rock Records)…
On “Precious Memories” Japhia conjures up some ill imagery, flashbacks, and well rounded poetics for a enjoyable listen…Dont sleep cuzzo!!
” Bob James In The Mix “
The legend Bob James get the “mixtape” treatment this time around….DJ Jimmy Green is behind the wheels of steel for this journey into sound that is stacked with quality selections, doubles, and a couple surprises on deck…
” Grap Luva At The Writers Bench “
Do the right thing and check in duke….
This week the Writer’s Bench crew sit down to interview the younger soul brother, Grap Luva and chop it up about everything from his first days of hip hop, Pete Rock making pause button beats and the drama behind the INI album never coming out to practicing dance moves with Puff, Heavy D’s influence on the game and the day Pete Rock made the remix for DAS EFX’s Real Hip Hop.
” Under The Radar Wax “
Contrary to popular belief, right now is a glorious time for Hip Hop….With so many niche labels popping up within the last few years – there has been no shortage of fly shit to cop…
16F Music looks as if they have a few high powered releases up their sleeves…Major Stress, Da Chozen, and the very slept on outfit CANDY STORE (Escape From Belize was my shit) are all slated for the limited edition treatment in the near future….So head over to their spot and get your pre-order game up before these joints disappear troop….
” Pok Dog : Not Like Them E.P. “
Here is a little 805 action that you might have missed when it initially dropped, KANKICK & POKDOG teamed up for the “Not Like Them” EP back in 2007…
HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD TOP PICKS “NOT LIKE THEM”, “TAKE OVER THE AIRWAVES”, & “TAKE IT”….
” Sunday Night Live “
On cold nights like this, it’s only right that I go into full blown funk mode and try to keep my mental tropical even though it’s extra chilly in Vietnam, California…
Almost an hour of ultra rare African funk floor rockers on deck…
CATCH A GROOVE..
Mold, dirt, sand, dust, red clay, and suspect powder-like substances covered these records. If you don’t mind a few crackles and pops, turn up the volume and enjoy the groovy sounds of West Africa. Funky recordings with tight on-the-one beats punctuated by poly-rhythmic flourishes and self-confident themes, declaring…We Got Sound!
Artwork is hand-stamped and each copy hand-numbered. Limited-Edition of 200 copies.

” Rest In Power “
Vancouver Hip Hop pioneer INCREDIBLE EASE passed away last month after a lengthy bout with cancer….Some of you are aware of him from the handful of singles he dropped in the mid-late 90s (All Praises Due still gets burn in the system), but I recently listened to a shelved album by his crew EQ (Swellsville) that instantly raised my Hip Hop antenna….
REST IN POWER – YOUR MUSIC LIVES ON….
Ease & Quaze are responsible for Vancity’s first Hip-Hop classic with 1990’s “They Can’t Cope”, which is the b-side to EQ’s debut 12″ “Put Yo Body In It”. Swellsville was supposed to be the album that followed, but due to industry rule #4080 it never saw the light of day. A handful of cassettes made it to the group but that was it. If you never got your hands on one of those tapes, which is pretty much everybody on the planet, then you never had a chance to hear Swellsville. It is a familiar story, but an all too real one that kept the world from hearing an ill fucking album that should at very least be recognized as a Canadian classic. Maestro Fresh Wes and Main Source aside, I put Swellsville up against anything released in the early 90’s – Dream Warriors, Devon, MCJ & Cool G, Kish, Ground Control, Organized Rhyme or any of the other rappers I saw on Much Music’s Soul In The City “Rap” specials back in the day. The production on Swellsville can give Maestro and Main Source a run for their money too. Straight up. The beats are hard as hell.
