” Retro Weirdos “
MCM has been making noise again…After a fifteen year hiatus it appears as if they are gaining momentum in the new millennium…
After taking a look at the jacket in the above pic, I was somewhat enthusiastic for the resurgence of the label….But after spotting Justin Beiber rocking a sky blue joint I knew I would never attempt to cop one for myself…
What’s up with all these retro cornballs trying to flash shit when they weren’t around for the initial splash ?…..
GTFOH!
” Saturday Firepower “
How and the hell did this “MONEY BOSS” mixtape slide past my radar?
You already know how these Bronx Bombers operate : gritty boulevard bully rap, sinister production, with a heavy splash of that BX goodness…BLAM,BLAM,BLAMZ…..

” Live On The Set “
Since it’s Friday it’s only right that I splash ya’ll with a certified Hip Hop treat..Take a listen to this hour and 45 minutes performance of Bumpy Knuckles & Preemo earlier this year in Europe..
I highly recommend that you listen to this start to finish because these two come fully equipped with the heat….
Straight from the boards homeboy…
And while your at it, you might as well swoop up this Bumpy Knuckles mixtape hosted by DJ Premier (Street Triumph)…The Hip Hop Project DJ’s “Monkey” & “Turnaround” handle the deck duties…
” Reading Is Fundamental ”
Remember when the “Source” magazine was halfway credible?
Yeah, don’t front…..You know damn well in the early 90’s they had a decent staff that knew their Hip Hop to some degree…
Back before the internet and file sharing – the “Source” had people glued to their pages internationally…..But once they put “TLC” on the cover, and started heavily promoting cornballs like “MASTER-P”, I turned my back on the magazine forever (no disrespect to Left Eye, but they definitely weren’t a Hip Hop group so I could already detect the fuckery)…..
And once Benzino came in the fold, the original “MIND SQUAD” hit the exit with a quickness just like many of it’s faithful readers……
While at the bookstore the other day I stumbled onto a book by the Source’s former editor-in- chief Kim Osorio…..Normally I avoid this type of shit like the plague, but for some reason I decided to waste five bucks on her “TELL ALL” story….
Just like I suspected : Underhanded business practices, Hip Hop politics, abuse of power, personal agendas, industry rubbish, etc…She even goes into detail about her sexual relationships with Nas, 50 Cent, and several others (talk about conflict of interest)…
If your in the mood to get a inside look into the Source 2000-2005, you might as well scoop this book up….Don’t expect any groundbreaking shit as far as Hip Hop perspectives are concerned – but it is interesting to read about the inner workings of a once great magazine….
” Kurious Jorge : Blue “
I’m going to transport you cats to 1994 for a little unreleased jewelry from Kurious Jorge’s “CONSTIPATED MONKEY” album…..
“Blue”…
” Kankick On Production “
“KAN KICK” is widely known for his dusty, minimalist style of crafting beats….
Take a listen to some 2012 chop action….
” Tuesday Shots On Deck “
DJ Djaz hits us with “2000 – Till Infinity”…
This mix is twenty two cuts deep with doubles, scratches, blends, etc….Quit stalling and check in..

” Dome Shakers “
Even though Hip Hop is alive and well in 2012, their are a few things popping off that make this brother shake his head in disbelief….
I know it’s not politically correct in this era to call motherfuckers out – but I come from a different era where Hip Hop heads would put the “PRESSURE” on you for not being on your square…
Most of these cats will collaborate with ANYONE if the money is right…Don’t get me wrong, I love that brothers can maintain a business without all the middleman (record labels) fuckery….
But what about integrity?
Cats should only collaborate if they have a true chemistry in the studio…I’m growing tired of all these collabs that are obviously fueled by nothing but money……We all have to eat, but this shit is getting ridiculous……
Some of these rap dudes are so self-centered that they believe producers should just give them free beats….
WHAT PART OF THE GAME IS THAT?
You mean to tell me that I spent thousands of dollars on records and equipment, plus decades holed up in the lab studying production for NO type of compensation….GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE…
It’s not even a money issue, it’s a respect issue…..Respect my motherfucking zone – these beats are snapshots of my life…
BREAK BREAD…
Everybody is so Hip Hop these days, but no one is hip (YA FEEL ME)….I don’t care how many Jordans you have, I don’t care how many fake Cazals you rock, but I “DO” care if you know your Hip Hop history…
Substance will always prevail over style in my opinion…..Don’t get it twisted : I like to get dipped up just like everyone else, but I own more books than sneakers…..
Now all the sudden you cats want to start record collecting in 2012..
GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE…
Back when you were hunting for Bruce Springsteen CD’s, we were already knee deep in heavy duty crate action….This is nothing new to us homeboy….This is not a hobby for us, this is an integral part of our life so stop all the bloodclot posturing…
The internet is supposed to be the information highway, but some of you dudes are on a information cul de sac……
So many blogs post the same exact shit…Maybe it’s payola, or maybe it’s lack of creativity – either way, I long for more original content and music when it comes to this blog shit…
Don’t be fooled when your homeboy tells you he is going on tour in Europe……Some of these shows are like empty circuses with one rap dude on stage as the performing clown…
HAHA..
These NEW AGE promoters just throw motherfuckers on stage without doing any legwork on the avenue…..If your going to promote, go ahead and do so, but if your intention is to dick ride the artist for future favors, FALL BACK !!!
I’m done ranting and raving for now, I have to do this every once in awhile for anyone out there that still believes in Hip Hop ethics and codes……I’m not a hater, I’m just a lifelong Hip Hop student that has his own opinions….PERIOD.

” Fluent On The Remix “
Green Llama crew member “FLUENT” is criminally slept on in my opinion…From “Uncut Raw” with Selfish, to numerous other projects he has released throughout the years – he has managed to keep his beats ugly and unpredictable…
Take a listen to “Ear Candy 2 Remixes” for further analysis..

” Hawaiian Funk Mode “
I’m quite sure most of the HIP HOP BATTLFIELD readers are familiar with DJ Muro, but are you cats out there well-versed in Hawaiian funk?
I’m definitely not…..When I travelled to the lovely island of Kauai, Hawaii a few years back, for some reason I was unable to locate a store that was holding vinyl…I looked everywhere, I asked random people on the street, looked in the Yellow Pages and still no luck…
All I heard was traditional island music with a splash of reggae (not a bad thing)…
DJ Muro on the other hand must have crates full of Hawaiian funk tunes, because on this mix he comes fully equipped…

” Goods Seattle Is Alive & Well “
In the past when I headed out to Seattle for spontaneous digging missions, I would also check for the GOODS clothing boutique….They were holding a wild amount of kicks, gear, and all types of treats…
Unfortunately they closed their doors earlier this year after a run for nearly a decade (during this recession cats aren’t spending cheese like they used to I guess)…
They recently opened up under a different name, “ALIVE AND WELL”….If your on the hunt for some fly Winter threads – head over there and tell them the grimy dude from HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD sent you jack…
” Polo Planet Pressure “
On general principle I should have put this up last week, but a brother has been extra busy (you know how that go)…..
PF Cuttin hits us off with a grimy extravaganza of nonstop 2 L’s up type shit…I’m quite sure you already know the motherfucking drill:Boostin, bullying, boozing, and all types of barbarian bars on deck….
Salute to LL’s & all the AYAK (Always Yelling At Kidz) fam….By the way, I produced a joint on SPIT GEMZ newest mixtape, “Welcome To Hellz Gate”……The name of the song is “Sinister Grin” featuring J-Love, Stalker & Shaz Illyork…Go track that shit down…
