" NY – CT Connect "
L.O.N.S. Alumni “Dinco-D” is still blessing microphones in the new millennium…Last year he came out with the NY-CT Connect project with Elvee..All of the production duties were handled by DJ N.E.B……
Glad to hear that “D” is still maintaining and doing his thing….
HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD TOP PICKS….”Amongst Them”, “Text Love”, and “Last Days”..
" Samples Vs. Bands "
“I’m tired of rappers with live instruments on the stage / save that shit for parades…And while your at it why don’t you dress like a clown / and draw yourself a permanent frown..
Rappers doing this should retire / niggas looking like Earth, Wind, and Fire”…
“Kiss My Black Ass”..MC Ren 1992.
I wouldn’t personally word it the way the former NWA rhyme slayer did, but I understand his sentiments whole heartedly……Too many dudes forget that Hip Hop was built on the manipulation of breaks…Sometimes when you actually incorporate a band into the mix the results are lackluster..
For instance, Black Moon chose to rock over a band late last year to perform the entire “Enta The Stage” album…..There are a couple interesting moments, but I will choose rugged Beat Minerz production over the band scenario any day of the week…
*On a side note- I wasn’t digging that Onyx & Biohazard collabo “Judgement Night” either…HAHA..
Am I alone on this one ? What do ya’ll think ?

" 206 On Deck "
KEXP catches up with Seattle’s Vitamin D on their introspective documentary series….
“When KEXP Documentaries interviewed 10 acts for this series, every single band pointed back to Vitamin D as the originator of the town’s current sound. Vitamin D’s band The Ghetto Children (freaking fantastic group if you haven’t heard them) and Tribal Music label were a huge influence on acts like Blue Scholars, Jake One, D. Black and more. Vita’s studio, The Pharmacy has had an open-door policy, welcoming anyone from the community who was willing to put in the work. In addition to his talents as a DJ, producer, composer and engineer, Vitamin D also mentors youth in the community, giving kids from hard neighborhoods a chance to make music”.
And if you missed this excellent collection of rare funk grooves the first time around (Funk On Sight), here is your chance to do the right thing homepiss..
" Grief Pedigree Steez "
Grief Pedigree is on my most anticipated album of the year list..
WHY ?
Dude makes his own beats (which are very original by the way), pens his own rhymes, and even directs his own videos…..
Let me rewind that one real quick….I know plenty dudes that make their own beats and jot down their own rhymes – shit, I even know some cats that own their own studios, but they still suck…….
The difference between them and Ka is that I can actually feel what dude is saying….It comes off in a very natural way, while others have to force the funk…
HA.
Anyway, hopefully we will see the release of this project sooner than later…

" Brazilian Body Rockers "
Since it is Friday and I know ya’ll are searching for some action – I’m going to lace you with a couple special spices to work with….
The Soul Spectrum show with the Ambassador (KZSU Standford) put together an all Brazilian session to keep your morale up…..Heavy drum breaks, soul power, and all types of goodness are thrown into the rotation…..
Do yourself a favor and listen to this in it’s entirety…
" Blog Shots 61 "
With so many blogs out there sometimes it’s difficult to pinpoint who has the goods….The Top Notch Records blog is holding when it comes to explosive vinyl rips…
For instance, this Lord Aaqil joint “What’s Your Name” caught me completely off guard…..Take a listen…
" 92 Rudeness "
I’m going to take you all the way back to 1992 with Bobby Konders on Tim Westwood’s Capitol Rap Show…..Regardless of what some people might have to say about the man, you can’t change the fact that the “Massive-B” general was/is responsible for breaking mad records here in the States..
Matter of fact, the NYC Badmen project changed my whole perception on what hardcore really means…Anyway, take a listen to this 30 minute dancehall explosion and get your mind right…..BOOOOOYAAAAKKKKKAAAAA.
Via-S1..
" Rap Is Out Of Control : 1/29/12 "
JS-1 mans the decks on the newest broadcast of RIOOC….
You will hear doubles, cuts, and all brand new material from this RSC repper..
“I went through a lot of the newer hiphop and tried to pick songs that i personally liked or appreciate. Nowadays since EVERYONE makes music, there is tons of demos to listen to, mixed in with actual artist and albums. I only play what i like and don’t support some of the nonsense that has infiltrated “underground” hiphop. There is tons of dudes imitating other rappers, tons of producers imitating other producers, etc.. That’s not what hiphop is all about. So on this show i did my best to rock what i thought was worthy or notable. There is lots of newer MCees and still several veterans in the game bringing you good music. When doing a “mix” show, i don’t like playing whole songs, afterall it is a “mix” show. If you like any of these tracks, you can go buy them on itunes or support by buying the CD from sites like ughh.com and fatbeats.com. I’d like to thank Dj Eclipse for doing a show like this with little reward. It’s hard work and you have to deal with several people who complain and harass you, like me. lol. I hope you enjoy this new mix, and hope you support some of these new artists like Soul Khan, Homeboy Sandman, Rasheed Chappell, Blacastan, etc”…
