" The Art Of Rap "

Even though Ice-T made a few ill advised moves during his illustrious career (Playing a cop, his horrendous reality show “Rap School”, a few god-awful movie cameos, etc)…..I still give him his proper respect for his influential contributions to this Hip Hop art form…..

Matter of fact, I would still put “T” on my all time top ten list of M.C.’s……SERIOUSLY……

Check out this trailer from the Ice-T documentary “The Art Of Rap”……….Appearances from Kool Keith, Immortal Technique, Grandmaster Caz, Chuck D, Big Daddy Kane, Raekwon, Lord Finesse, D.J. Premier, etc….

" Under The Radar Rockets, Part 7 "

Usually when I post up something for the “Under The Radar” segment the material usually falls in between 1985-2000, but this time I’m going to bless ya’ll with a joint that dropped in 2011…

Earlier this year Ice Water repper “Polite” released a mixtape entitled, Staten Island……..Here is one of the standout cuts that you might not have heard before, “Get Your Shit Beat In”- featuring Raekwon, Chip Banks (R.I.P.), Trife, and Ghostface….

" Grand Daddy I.U. Speaks "

Jesse Serwer recently conducted a in-depth interview with one of Long Island’s finest, “Grand Daddy I.U.”…..The smooth assassin discusses Biz Markie, collaborations with Roc Marciano, Hempstead, and even his affinity for early dancehall tracks…..

” JS: You always had dancehall tracks on your albums. Were you a big dancehall head?

I.U.: Yeah, but I hate that shit now. The Jamaican artists now is wack to me. They fucked the game up with all this fast shit. I like slow, hard bass lines and all that. It’s all fast and stupid. Elephant Man and shit like that.

JS: What dancehall did you like?
I.U.: Ninja Man is my all time favorite. Supercat, Josey Wales, Admiral Bailey, Nicodemus, Tenor Saw”.

" Apollo Brown- Clouds "

Earlier today I decided to give Apollo Brown’s newest offering a thorough listen (Clouds)…….Nice down-tempo, mellow grooves popping off on this joint…..

Give this a listen during late night hours for maximum effect…..

“Bridge Through Time”

“Shadows Of Grief”

" Saturday Night Shots "

It’s about that time to hit ya’ll off with some original “Pretty Tony” shit, and I’m not talking about that dude from the Wu who used to rock a stocking cap over his face….

Pretty Tone Capone (Mobstyle) easily makes my top 20 list when it comes to that hardcore shit……He sounded like a Harlem Willie Dee with a splash of Just- Ice……

He was once signed to Rick Rubin’s “Ill Labels”, but a solo full length album never materialized……However he did release a batch of singles in the early 90’s that have managed to age very well……

Salute to you “Pretty Tone Capone” for lyrics like this…….”Fuck the ransom, bullets start dancing / seen your nigga dead they had him looking handsome”………(OUCH).

“Can’t Talk Too Long On The Phone”……From the Def American 1992 promo tape….(You can thank me later, HAHA)….

And while your at it- you might as well peep the video for “Case Dismissed” and get your mind right…..POW,POW….

" Blog Shots 46 "

Dontay / TC5 has a blog that hasn’t been updated in years, but the stuff that he has on there still crushes most toys in 2011….

If you think I am bullshitting, find out for yourself trooper….

YOU KNOW THE DRILL…

" Roddy Rod- Voodoo For You "

To be honest I was never that neo-soul, D’ Angelo type dude……I would rather listen to some abrasive hardcore punk rock than listen to a whiny-ass dude screaming and yelling about how he misses his boo-boo..

Most modern R-N-B fails to catch my ear because of the corny approach to song writing…….And that wierdo R. Kelly pretty much put the nail in the coffin when he started making songs like the awkwardly titled, “Booty” and all that….

Whenever I spot a dude driving down the street with his windows down, blasting the newest Usher joint with a screw face on, I just bust out laughing…….HAHAHA….

Anyway, Roddy Rod just put together a chopfest of some D’ Angelo material….Sure I’m not into all that neo-soul shit, but if Roddy’s name is attached to this project than I will give it a listen…..You should too…

" Ed Lover- C’mon Son 21 "

On this hilarious episode of “C’mon Son 21”, Ed Lover throws Gucci Mane, Justin Bieber, Diddy, Snooky, Bruno Mars, Lady Ga Ga, Lil Kim, and a couple other worthy suspects completely under the bus……

I can’t believe people actually watch the Grammy’s……

Peep….

" Milkcrate Jewelz 28 "

At this point in my life I hit the record stores at least once a week to see what I can catch out there…..With the invention of Serato dudes are unloading their records at an alarming rate, which is a good thing for me troop….

Sometimes I might treat myself and spend a nice amount of paper on some joints, but I actually enjoy taking the time to find impressive records without the hefty price tag attached to them…

This past weekend I caught a batch of one dollar records that surprised me…..

1..Kool G. Rap…..”Foul Cats”………….A bugged out Marvin Gaye chop is a perfect backdrop for another session of G Rap mic shredding……This record didn’t get much burn when it initially came out for some reason…….

It also came with the instrumental and accapella (Yeah, I’m going to remix this shit eventually-stay tuned)…..

2..Money Boss Players……”Bronx Niggas”…………..This is such a banging single it’s a damn shame that I found it for only a dollar…….I’m not complaining though-HAHAHAHA…..

3..Milano…………”Are You Listening?”……………Beat Down Records (T-Ray) put out some decent material in the early 2000’s…..Showbiz blesses Milano with some stripped down drama….DOPE…

4…Mad Lion………”Brooklyn Massacre”……..Wow, I never even heard this cut……Of course I’m familiar with “Box Of Blunts”, “Take It Easy”, “Shoot To Kill”, “Double Trouble”, etc……..But somehow this slipped past my radar……

1997-Weeded Records…Produced by Buddah Monk…….

5..Shake Sauvage……..”Kidnapping”……

Ill French Soundtrack drama from 1970 composed by Karl Heinz Schafer…….This is amazing music.

" Donald D- The Syndicate Sniper Mix Repost "

Every dope post deserves more shines- original post date March 29/2010….

For some strange reason the “Rhyme Syndicate” have been written out of the Hip Hop history books…CRAZY…How could anyone forget a 50+ plus posse that stretched from east to west, and even Europe with the signing of Hi-Jack ( The first European Hip Hop group signed to an American record label )….

Nat The Cat, Bronx Style Bob, Divine Styler, Everlast (Before he became Whitey Ford HAHAH), Domination (Haven’t Heard Nothing- is one of the best Hip Hop songs ever recorded), Afrika Islam, Spinmasters, Low Profile, S.L.J. (Before he bacame Shafiq of Sa=Ra), Bango, Bilal, Hi-Jack, Tim Story, Toddy T, King-T, Lord Finesse (Remember when he was down with Syndicate management), and of course the Syndicate sniper, “Donald-D” (I know there are more members, but you get the point-the posse was large)…..

They made such a huge impact on me growing up that I should really dedicate a whole entire week to the crew (I will in the near future)…Seeing this example of east-west Zulu Nation unity at an early age, taught me that fly music is not really a regional thing, it could come from virtually anywhere-even Europe..

So when that fake east-west beef popped off in the mid 90’s, I knew better than to participate…Salute to the motherfuckin Rhyme Syndicate- for teaching me what a true BUMRUSH is really all about…

I recently stumbled upon this mixtape by Donald-D (Capitol 1212) that made me put on my best screwface…”D” has made quite a name for himself here and abroad over the years…I’m not sure if he is living back in the States, last I heard he was living the life over in Italy….

Do yourself a favor and scoop this up…This mixtape gets the two thumbs up !!!!!!!!!
